Glenwood News: Celebrating retirements and accomplishments

Jimmy worked in trucking, both as a long-haul driver and in the logging industry here. He’s a person who can repair just about anything and amazes us all with his ability to fabricate something he needs or someone else needs with great skill. We all know Jimmy is still going to stay busy. He’s not one to sit still for long. Both he and Roxie are enjoying no longer going to bed before the chickens and starting the work day at 1 a.m. Congratulations, Carran and Jimmy.

Once again, our community is saddened to hear of the news of yet another dear Glenwood resident. Gloria Ladiges Harter recently passed away during a brief hospital stay. She was the daughter of Maxie and Irma Ladiges and lived her entire life here in Glenwood. She married Gary Harter after high school.

I’m sure many from here in her hometown remember how she and her sister Coral used to teach tumbling to the younger Glenwood kids. But I wonder if many realized they also came over to Trout Lake to do a tumbling demonstration and teach some of us little Trout Lake kids some exciting new tumbling moves. My sister Linda and I thought surely, we were about ready to become circus performers with our tumbling routines.

Gloria requested to not have a funeral. Her family gathered to have a private graveside service and she was laid to rest in the beautiful Mt. Adams Cemetery beside her beloved husband Gary. Our deepest condolences go to Gloria’s daughter Gina and all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

I just learned of some great news about a 2026 Trout Lake High School graduate, Jade McLean. Jade, daughter of Jim and Jennifer, will attend Mt. Hood Community College this fall. Although she attended Trout Lake High School, many of us have known Jade and her family for many years.

What makes it more exciting is that she will be a member of their track and field team. You may recall that Jade is outstanding in the pole vault.  She finished first at district and second at the State 1A championships at Hayward Field in Eugene. But she is so versatile, she also participated on the Trout Lake girls’ 4x400 relay where the team placed first at state, and in the 4x100 relay, they placed ninth. Congratulations, Jade.

The Klickitat County Fair is quickly approaching. For information on all the things to see and do, you can find information regarding requirements and dates for entering exhibits or entering events. It’s always a great time to celebrate our 4-H and Future Farmers of America kids whose hard work raising their animals culminates in this big event.

Here’s a reminder that donations will be accepted for the Market Stock Sale at the fair. This helps ensure that the kids all get some great support as they sell the animals they spent the past year raising. Selling their entries is often very hard on their hearts so let’s get out there and show them their hard work pays off.
