HOOD RIVER — A fundraising effort aims to purchase a rescue watercraft for Hood River.

The Hood River County Sheriff’s Foundation is fundraising for the enhanced jet ski to “improve the rescue capability of the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office,” according to a Facebook release on May 13. This enhanced jet ski would allow Marine Patrol to make faster rescues, work in rougher conditions, and safely rescue people in swift or shallow water and on lakes and reservoirs. An attached life sled would allow a single patrol member to perform a water rescue alone.
By press deadline, $300 had been raised towards a goal of $39,500, which would cover purchase, outfitting, delivery, licensing, Marine Patrol labeling and a trailer.
Hood River Sheriff’s Foundation is a nonprofit established in 2020 to raise money for “programs that have a lasting impact on public safety,” according to their mission statement.
