The Friends of Mount Adams organization (FOMA) is presenting a free public forum, “Mt. Adams Cougar Creek Burn: The Future,” on Friday, Dec. 11, 7 to 9 p.m. at Columbia High School Library in White Salmon.
Goals of the forum are to determine how the wildfire affected a tribal nation, two public agencies, and some private timberlands, explain what restoration and salvage work is being planned (including rebuilding recreational facilities), and summarize management strategies.
The moderated panel will consist of land managers and ecologists from the Yakama Nation, U.S. Forest Service, Washington State Deptartment of Natural Resources, and Mt. Adams Forest Stewards. They will give short talks and allow plenty of time later for questions, including brief discussions between panel members. A short geographical review of the burn will lead off the presentations.
Joining the panel are Steve Andringa and Mark Nuetzmann (Yakama Nation); Mose Jones Yellin and Jessica Hudec (Gifford Pinchot National Forest); Ken McNamee and Albert Durkee (Department of Natural Resources); Jay McLaughlin (Mt. Adams Resource Stewards), and Darryl Lloyd (FOMA board member and conservation chair).
