BINGEN — On June 2, Empowered Movement Aerial, a 501c3 nonprofit, hosted their end of year showcase at The Bingen Theatre. Arwen Ungar, the founder, gave a speech before the recital, announcing the nonprofit moved into a new, bigger space in Mall 202 — the same building as their now-old studio. The new studio has space for 10 apparatuses, four more than their old room.
The June 2 event had students across various skill levels, aged 6 and up, perform to songs aligning with their Heroes and Villains theme. Thirty-five students performed, showcasing routines on aerial silks and a trapeze.
The music was every 2010s kid’s dream. In coordinated yellow and purple outfits, and the song “Happy” by Pharrell Williams played as little minions showed off their skills on the silks in the first routine of the night. Other songs included popular Disney hits from Descendants, The Little Mermaid, and the 2021 Cruella movie. The final routines were from multiple advanced students performing to songs including “Just a Girl” by No Doubt and “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” by Beyoncé.

Empowered Movement Aerial has a scholarship program for kids and teens who do not have the financial support to attend classes or camps. Part of the money raised through ticket sales and donations at the showcase event will go to those scholarships.
Funds raised will also support the Empowerment Express, where they bring aerial arts to Lyle School, Mid Valley Elementary, and Wy’east Middle School at no cost to the schools. This outreach brings physical activity to the broader community and grows the awareness of the aerial studio locally, Ungar said.
