HOOD RIVER — Hood River County forest landowners are invited to attend the “Fire, Fuels, and Forest Health Landowner Information Night” on Thursday, July 25 from 6-8 p.m. at the Pine Grove Grange. The program will focus on fuels reduction practices and the federal, state, and local programs available to support forest landowners in their efforts to improve wildfire resilience and reduce risk on their woodland properties.
The program includes:
• The Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) from NRCS, which offers financial and technical assistance to medium-to-large acreage forestland owners.
• The Small Forestland Grant (SFG) from ODF, ideal for small acreage forested landowners.
• The Western States Fire Managers (WSFM) grant, administered by ODF, providing wildfire risk reduction fuels treatments around the home ignition zone.
• The Hood River Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) mobile chipping program, offering free chipping of yard debris for Hood River residents who are working on creating defensible space around their homes. More info at hoodriverswcd.org/news-events/mobile-chipping-service.
• Educational opportunities offered by OSU Extension Forestry and Natural Resources program.
Organizers will also share updates about county-wide collaborative efforts to prioritize and implement wildfire risk reduction projects across public and private lands. These include the Mt. Hood National Forest Wildfire Crisis Strategy, the initiation of the multi-stakeholder All-Lands, All-Hands Wildfire Partnership, and the current update of Hood River’s Community Wildfire Protection Plan, led by the Hood River County Emergency Management.
The event is hosted by the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF), Hood River Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), OSU Extension, and the Hood River Forest Collaborative, with support from partner agencies.
Interested landowners are encouraged to RSVP at beav.es/pq5. Light snacks and beverages will be provided.
