THE DALLES — The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for July 5-11. Temperatures have exceeded 100 degrees Fahrenheit during this time period.
This type of weather would not normally present any challenges for the City’ of The Dalles’ water system. However, one of the city’s three wells that are used to meet summer demands, the Lone Pine Well, is currently out of service due to an unexpected mechanical failure. To avoid any water supply challenges, city water customers are encouraged to minimize or avoid unnecessary outdoor water use for the next week or so.
Chenowith Water PUD customers are not affected by this advisory. Customers can confirm their water provider at thedalles.org/waterdistrictmap.
Some ways customers can reduce outdoor water use include:
• Temporarily reducing lawn and garden watering.
• Using a sprinkler, drip irrigation or soaker hose for landscape and garden watering rather than an open hose.
• Using a commercial car wash that recycles much of its water rather than washing vehicles at home. If washing vehicles at home, using a spring-loaded nozzle rather than an open hose is recommended.
Repairs to the Lone Pine Well are expected to be complete by the end of July. This water use advisory may be extended if the heatwave continues beyond the current National Weather Service forecast.
