America’s Got Talent is back with its 21st season on Tuesday, June 2, and ahead of the premiere, we have an exclusive sneak peek at what to expect from the mind-blowing auditions. The talent is so off the charts this season that judges Simon Cowell, Mel B., Howie Mandel, and Sofia Vergara are left speechless by some of the acts.
In the clip above, the judges arrive for auditions and are greeted by hundreds of excited fans. Some of the acts they see include aerialists, dance groups, a sword swallower, and more. “What the!? Whoa!” Mel B. exclaims in one scene, while Mandel tells one act, “Blow our mind!”
Vergara raves over another “spectacular” performance, while Cowell asks someone, “How did you do that?” Another group impresses Mandel so much that he tells them, “You guys are amazing. You are the epitome of what AGT is all about.” And Mel B. calls one act “brilliant, slick, [and] entertaining.”
Perhaps the highest compliment, though, is when Cowell announces to one group, “I think that was the best act we’ve seen this year.”
AGT first premiered in 2006, which means this is the show’s 20th anniversary season. Mandel previously told TV Insider that the talent is “above and beyond” this year. Vergara also teased that there will be “back-to-back” Golden Buzzers this year.
For Season 21, all four judges and host Terry Crews will be given two Golden Buzzers, which means 10 acts will automatically advance to the Live Shows after the Audition round. Not all of the acts who receive “yes” votes from the judges end up moving onto the Live Shows, so this is an important distinction.
For the first time, there will also be a Judges’ Callback round this year, which will give some acts the opportunity to perform for Mandel, Mel B., Cowell, and Vergara a second time after their deliberations. Some of those performers will earn a spot in the Live Shows after their callback performances.
