HOOD RIVER — Hood River Valley, which advanced to the state boys soccer quarterfinals for the 14th time in school history, had three players on the 2024 Northwest Oregon Conference all-league first team.
The Eagles had nine players honored overall, and conference coaches also selected HRV Coach Alvaro Lara as coach of the year.
Three players were first-team all-league picks for Hood River, which has been a state quarterfinal team nine of the past 12 seasons the playoffs have been held. Senior forward Andro Mendez, senior midfielder Julian Lara, and senior defender Oscar Moline were voted by league coaches to the first team.
The Eagles finished the season with a 9-4-4 record; two of the four losses were to 6A schools in nonleague matches. The other two losses were 2-0 to eventual 5A semifinalist Wilsonville, and 3-2 (4-2 on penalty kicks) to NWOC foe La Salle Prep in the state quarterfinals. HRV had beaten the eventual state champion Falcons, 3-0, in a league match.
Making second team for HRV was senior forward Aran Garcia, and junior Emmanuel Galindo.
Moline and Lara were two-time, first-team all-league players, having made the 2023 all-star list, as well. Garcia was a first-team pick as a junior and honorable mention all-league as a sophomore, and Galindo was honorable mention at midfield a season ago.
Coach Lara is 22-9-4 in two seasons as head coach. The Eagles were state runner-up in 2023.
The Eagles also had four other players receive honorable mention: junior forward Geovanni Macias; junior midfielder Solomon Parson; senior defender John Olson; and senior goalie Eamon Anslinger.
The Northwest Oregon Conference flexed its boys soccer muscle in the 2024 state playoffs, as four teams — Centennial, Wilsonville, La Salle Prep, and HRV — advanced to the eight-team quarterfinal round.
