HOOD RIVER — Hood River Valley (HRV), paced by an 11-hit attack, won its high school baseball season opener 5-4 in eight innings March 18 against visiting St. Helens. Hood River had multiple hits from five players: Maverick Hockett, Addison Postlewait, Kingston McAdam, Bodie Stuben, and Davis Parr. Freshman Tyson Harjo had the other HRV hit — also a double.

Stuben, HRV’s starting pitcher, was chased from the mound by a four-run St. Helens fifth inning. The junior right-hander had scattered eight hits, walked four and struck out 10. Trevor Jacobs got the final out for HRV in the fifth and then the junior righty proceeded to throw one-hit ball the rest of the way.
