THE DALLES — The Dalles High Riverhawks extended their win streak to three after they recorded two Tri-Valley Conference (TVC) Class 4A girls basketball victories last week.
The No. 13-ranked Riverhawks (7-2 TVC, 17-5 overall) took second place in the six-team TVC standings to clinch a state playoff berth for the first time in 10 years. The Riverhawks will play a March 7 first-round matchup in the 16-team playoffs against a yet-to-be-determined opponent. The Riverhawks concluded the regular season with their Feb. 25 contest versus the Molalla High Indians (4-5 TVC, 11-11 overall).
The Riverhawks won, 50-18, Feb. 18 at home over the Gladstone High Gladiators (3-6 TVC, 5-18 overall). They followed with a, 50-21, senior night home win Feb. 21 over the Estacada High Rangers (1-8 TVC, 6-16 overall). Senior Sydney Newby celebrated the festive senior night event by scoring 21 points to help lead the Riverhawks to the victory. Junior Hailey Johnston scored 10 points versus Estacada.
The quartet of seniors Newby, Laci Hoylman, Yahdira Cruz Torres and Maddie Brock were honored in a special pregame ceremony while accompanied by their parents and family members.
The two lopsided victories marked the fifth time that the Riverhawks have won by 25 or more points this season. The No. 12-ranked Crook County High Cowgirls (9-0 TVC, 14-9 overall) won the TVC title.
