Seniors Logan King and Kai Wagner continue to pace the Hood River Valley boys cross country team to top five finishes in weekend invitational meets early this season.
The Eagles were fourth at the Sept. 14 Oregon City XC Invitational, which included 18 scoring teams and 145 varsity finishers. Franklin, Oregon City and Glencoe – each Class 6A schools – finished ahead of the 5A Eagles. HRV was third in its season opener, the Ultimook Race on Sept. 7.
King was third overall in a 15-second personal best of 15 minutes, 57 seconds over the fast Oregon City course. Wagner also PR’d – in 16:10 for 5,000 meters – for the second time in as many races this season. King was the runner-up at the 2023 Northwest Oregon Conference district meet, while Wagner placed third - leading HRV to the team title.
Hood River’s third through sixth runners finished within a minute of each other, led by Victor Coffman’s 17:20 effort (30th place). Teammates Andres Moretti was 43rd (17:42), Davis Kerr was 53rd (17:56); and Copeland Louis was 69th (18:29). Colin Gerald (77th, 18:46) and Brayden Strong (80th, 18:57) also competed in the varsity race for the Eagles.
