HOOD RIVER — Hood River Valley’s boys wrestling team finished sixth out of 17 teams at the Dec. 7 Tyrone S. Woods Memorial Tournament in Oregon City.
The Class 5A Eagles scored 149 team points, a half point behind fifth-place Aloha. The other teams which placed ahead of HRV were Class 6A schools (or equivalent) except champion Redmond. The competitive tourney had state tourney experienced wrestlers in each weight class.

Hood River was led by third-place finishers Leyton Adams and Connor Farlow. Adams won four of five matches at 144 pounds. Farlow won three of four wrestled matches at 132, including the third-place match by fall.
His lone loss was to Newberg’s Kingston Meadors, a state tourney wrestler for Silverton last season.
Marcus Patrick was fourth at 120 pounds, winning his first two wrestled matches to advance to the semifinals. He lost his next two matches, but both his opponents were state tourney wrestlers at the 6A level a year ago, including eventual champion Elijah Borrayo of Portland’s Lincoln.
In fifth for HRV was Froylan Mendez, who lost in the quarterfinal, but rebounded to win his next two matches and finish the tourney with a 3-1 record at 150. At the same weight, teammate Aberlardo Gomes-Gordian was sixth with a 3-2 record.
Also placing fifth was Samuel Blosser at 175 pounds, posting a 4-1 record. The 2024 5A state tourney qualifier lost in the quarterfinals but won his final two matches by fall. At 126 pounds, Copeland Louis was sixth for Coach Tony Rolen’s Eagles.
Five other wrestlers won three or more matches in the tourney: Daniel Olivas (ninth, 120); Jesus Ortega-Lara (ninth, 138); Jack McLaughlin (seventh, 165); Owen Watts (175); and Omar Sedano-Perales (ninth, 285).
