The Dufur High Rangers extended their win streak to three with a 3-0 home win Sept. 14 over Lyle/Wishram.
The Rangers, guided by first-year Coach Sydney Reed, had a strong performance versus the Cougars as their team serving was 97 percent and they had 21 aces. Freshman Cadence Young led the Ranger offense with eight kills.
“It feels pretty good to have a three-game win streak and it’s a real confidence boost for our team,” Reed said. “I am so excited to see that we have three wins under our belt now. It’s nice seeing that everything we’re doing at practice is paying off for us.”
The Rangers play Sept. 21 at South Wasco.
Redsides improve to 8-7
The defending Class 1A Big Sky League volleyball champion South Wasco County High Redsides concluded a grueling schedule of playing seven games in three days by winning four nonleague matches to improve to 8-7 overall (1-0 league).
The Redsides, guided by first-year Coach Shelley Iverson, competed in the East West Classic Tournament Sept. 15-16 at Powder Valley High School with wins over Class 4A Baker High and Class 2A Heppner. The Redsides lost to Class 2A Grant Union.
“We struggled early in the tournament and after losing to Imbler Friday,” Iverson said. “We’re playing good volleyball right now.”
The Redsides opened league play with a 3-0 win over the Glenwood/Klickitat/Trout Lake High Eagles (Klickwood) Sept. 14. Hannah Babcock (19 assists), Anabell Udey (11 kills), Bailey Udey (eight kills), Macy Bell (six kills), and Jayda Iverson (six kills) helped lead the Redsides’ offense. Julie Hull had a team-high nine digs. Iverson was 27-for-27 at the service line with five aces. Tayler Brittain had four aces and five digs.
The Redsides won one-of-three matches Sept. 15, 2-0, over the Wallowa High Cougars (9-5). The Redsides lost to Imbler and Crosshill.
