THE GORGE — Performances by Jayden Kusky, Sawyer Dean, and Melody Stock were highlights of Trout Lake High School’s foray into the 22-team Willamette Falls Invitational track and field meet April 19 in Oregon City.
Kusky edged closer to the 50-foot mark in the boys shot put with his winning effort of 48 feet, 10 inches, a new personal best. Dean won the boys pole vault with a near-PR of 15-3. Stock finished third in both her individual races, but she raced to personal records in the process: 2 minutes, 29.39 seconds in the 800 and 4:58.27 in the 1500.
The Mustangs also had team points from Jade Mclean, who was second in the girls pole vault at 9-6, and teammate Riley Rickman, who was eighth (7-0); Elle Rubesh, who was eighth in the girls triple jump at 31-3.5 (PR); Violette Anderson, who cleared 4-6 in the girls high jump (seventh) and was fourth in the shot put (33-3.5). Also of note for Trout Lake was the boys distance double by Judah Pearson, who had PRs in the 800 (2:09.47) and 1500 (4:27.64).
South Wasco
The Redsides competed April 18 at the River’s Edge meet in Umatilla. Top marks came from Bailey Udey in the girls triple jump (PR 33-4.75) and long jump (15-0); Macy Bell (first place, 4-10 girls high jump); Jayda Iverson (2:31.3 girls 800); and the girls 4x400 relay of Udey, Iverson, Bell, and Justee Gotham (4:39.99).
Dufur
The Rangers also competed at the Umatilla meet. Frosh Elle Brock continued her middle distance success by winning the 400 in a personal best 1:032.5 and later finished fourth in the 800 in a PR 2:43.9. She also long jumped a PR 14-7.5.
Nolan Cates led the Dufur boys with his 19-7.5 effort in the long jump and 12.04 100. Freshman teammate Chase Richards was third in the 400 (PR 55.82) and also had personal bests in the high jump and 200.
Glenwood
Lucas Knopf threw the discus 110-1.5 to finish fourth at the River’s Edge meet. Glenwood also competed April 16 at a meet in White Salmon, where junior Shane Spino ran a personal best 11.94 100.
Horizon Christian School
The Hawks competed April 17 at Hood River Valley in a Northwest Oregon Conference meet involving the host Eagles and Milwaukie. Top marks from the Hawks included freshman Charlie Haynie’s PR 16.65 effort in the 100 hurdles and 46.32 time in the 300 hurdles; sophomore Tyler Abbott’s 5-8 PR in the high jump and 2:11.2 800 (first time running the race); and senior Caleb Caldwell’s distance double (4:28.33 1500 and 2:09.71 800). Caldwell then ran a 53-second leg on Horizon’s 4x400 relay (school record 3:42.67) along with Brayden Strong, Landon Whitaker, and Abbott.
Sherman County
The Huskies competed at the Cove Regional meet along with 24 other schools. Senior Michael Blagg ran 11.97 seconds in the 100 and teammate Renan Christiansen threw the shot put 40-3. Sophomore Tyler Geary threw a PR 126-5 in the boys javelin.
