THE GORGE — The No. 6-ranked Trout Lake High Mustangs recorded a fourth straight OSAA (Oregon School Activities Association) Class 1A girls basketball victory with a 48-26 home win Jan. 11 over the Spray/Mitchell/Wheeler High Falcons (1-2 league, 6-6 overall).
The Mustangs also won Jan. 7 at home over the South Wasco County High Redsides (4-1 league, 9-5 overall), followed by a 51-29 Jan. 10 road win over the Ione/Arlington High Cardinals (0-1 league, 7-5 overall). The Mustangs have 10 days off before their next game Jan. 21 at home versus the Condon High Blue Devils (0-3 league, 2-8 overall).
The Redsides bounced back from their first league loss and won two straight, including a 50-40 road victory Jan. 10 over the Falcons and a 58-19 Jan. 11 home win versus Condon.
The Sherman High Huskies (2-0 league, 4-6 overall) notched a second straight victory, 44-28 over the Horizon Christian High Hawks (0-3 league, 3-7 overall) Jan. 10 at home. Sherman jumped out to a 26-2 lead after the first quarter, but didn’t score in the second. Addison Smith led the way in scoring for the Huskies with 17 points.
Horizon, which outscored Sherman 26-18 over the final three periods, was led by Bella Sperry’s 11 points. Horizon won two nonleague games last week: 43-26 over visiting Trinity Academy; and 59-29 at Willamette Valley Christian. Sperry had 20 points against Willamette Valley and Evelyn Tomka added 14.
