THE GORGE — A win by Trout Lake in girls basketball, Feb. 4 at South Wasco County, will clinch the 2025 Big Sky League regular season championship for the Mustangs.
Trout Lake (14-2 overall, 7-0 Big Sky) enters the week with a one-game lead over the Redsides (14-6, 7-1) in the loss column. The Mustangs have league games remaining against South Wasco, Dufur on Feb. 11, and Horizon Christian on Feb. 14.
A South Wasco win at home against Trout Lake will set up a potential tie-breaking scenario for the regular season crown and the league’s top seed from the West Division of the conference. South Wasco, which lost 53-38 Jan. 8 at Trout Lake, also hosts Dufur on Feb. 14.
The Rangers (5-11, 4-3) can play spoiler against South Wasco, should the Rangers win their final three Big Sky contests — Feb. 7 vs. visiting Horizon Christian, Feb. 11 vs. Trout Lake, and Feb. 14 at South Wasco — and Trout Lake wins Feb. 4.
Trout Lake won its ninth straight game Jan. 31, 52-40, over WIAA Stevenson High.
The top three teams from the West Division — currently Trout Lake, South Wasco and Dufur — will qualify for the league playoffs, which begin the week of Feb. 17. They will match up against the top three teams from the East Division — currently Sherman County, Wheeler County, and Ione/Arlington.
