Reflecting improvement in the supply situation, the ration point value of creamery butter will be reduced to 12 red points a pound from 16 points, effective April 30 (Sunday). Price Administrator Chester Bowles announced today.
Margarine will be lowered to 2 points per pound from 6 points.
These reductions highlight the changes in ration point values for meats and dairy products for May. The new values are effective from April 30 through June 3, 1944.
Among meats, ration point values for many choice cuts of beef for next month are increased slightly, due to a popular demand for these cuts which exceeds current supplies. Veal points are unchanged.
Lamb and mutton point values are reduced an average of about 50 percent to permit quicker distribution of shipments of light weight lambs because draught conditions in some sheep-growing area have destroyed or damaged pasture feed. Pork ration values for May are about the same as those for April, despite an easing of recent heavy run of hogs to market. — Hood River News, April 28, 1944
