The June issue of Sunset Magazine has named Hood River “Best Adventure Town.”
Sunset Magazine has named Hood River Best Adventure Town in its 2015 travel awards.
The designation appears in the June issue of the national publication.
The award entry was spearheaded by the Hood River County Chamber of Commerce as part of its mission to promote the economic prosperity and livability of Hood River County, according to Mike Glover, Chamber director.
“We’re thrilled that Sunset Travel Awards has recognized Hood River as the best adventure town in the West,” Glover said. “Not only do we have this amazing natural setting with tons of outdoor opportunities, be we also have great specialty stores, rentals and lessons to support visiting adventurers. Our outstanding breweries, restaurants, shops and accommodations, plus welcoming small-town ambiance, seal the deal for visitors of all kinds.”
Chosen by a panel of noted travel experts over numerous other entries from 13 Western states and British Columbia, Hood River stood out as a five-star destination for adventure seekers.
“The scenic setting, in the shadow of snow-capped Mt. Hood and the meeting of the Columbia and Hood Rivers, resonated with our judges, as did the startling breadth of experiences possible in this Oregon town – hiking, biking, fishing, rafting, skiing, paddle-boarding, and the West’s best windsurfing. The apres-adventure crafter beers had fans, too,” states the article.
Highlighted are the Pacific Crest Trail, White Salmon
River, full Sail brewing and Big Winds, plus timberline Lodge and ski area.
Sunset’s article was its second about Hood River in three months. The April edition profiled Hood River and the Fruit Loop as a destination, describing the city as “surrounded by pear, apple and peach orchards” and the Fruit Loop as “a 35-mile stretch of road dotted with fruit stands and lavender farms”. It added that, “In May this Columbia gorge town hits its stride: the river begins to warm, breweries open their patios, and the new waterfront park fills with picnickers.”
