As we transition to a two-week cycle for the bowling league news, here is the latest update on league bowling highlights at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes, big scores are back!
Monday night industrial league (fourth week of nine, round 3)
Standings (top teams):
1. Mt. Hood BBQ, 83 points
2. MTS, 66 points
3. Pat’s Pro Shop, 65 points
Match results from Feb. 3 and Feb. 10: In their impressive rise into first place in round three, Mt. Hood BBQ has been dominant in the past two weeks, winning 43 points, taking 22 from Randy’s Painting and 21 from Triple T’s. Mike Bosse and John Riggleman have definitely carried the ball for the BBQ-ers. Mike tossed a mighty fine 650 series while John chipped in 635 and 612 sets. No wonder they vanquished their competition. There are five weeks to go in round three, so all teams can still rise up and make waves but with this latest surge, the BBQ-ers have forged ahead with a commanding 17-point lead in first place.
In the other contested matches in the past two weeks, Pat’s Pro Shop and the Cutters won 29 points each; MTS has taken 26 points; Orchard Lanes and the Rollers won 24 points each; Triple T’s got 22 points; Randy’s Painting won 21 points; Decavo got 16; and lowly OL’7-10 only got 10.

Tuesday Nite mixed league (eighth week of 11 in second half)
Standings (top teams):
1. Split Faced, 23.5 wins
2. C.P.R., 22 wins
3. Take Ten, 21 wins
4. Team Nishi, 20.5 wins
Match results from Feb. 4 and Feb. 11: Split Faced has turned into a legitimate contender in the past two weeks, winning six out of eight match games. They’ve been underdogs all season, but they sure found some bite lately, shooting to the top of the standings. The shining star for Split Faced in their ascension to the league lead has been Torey Schmidt, who tossed his first 600 series of the season last week with a beautiful 612 set capped by a lofty 238 game. Torey finished the session, a whopping 164 pins over his average! That effort is hard to beat. The only remaining question for this upstart foursome is whether or not they can continue their newly found pin-busting for three more weeks to win the second half of the league. It’s going to be fun to watch because there’s never a dull moment in this rousing league. It’s one of the best, so much fun.
Team Nishi is also riding a successful wave, having won seven out of eight games in the past two weeks which moved them back up into contention in fourth place. You can never count out Team Nishi as they always seem to be in the thick of the battle. Jeff Hasegawa has really found his stroke in the past two weeks, notching back-to-back 600 sets, a 646 highlighted by a cool 243 game and a 625. The Nishi quartet was really hot two weeks ago as three of them rolled 600s in their match. Jeff had 625, Stuart Kawachi shot 624, including a nifty 244 game, and anchorman Joey Sheirbon also racked up 624. That’s plain intimidating firepower as they swept their poor opponents, beating them overall by 167 pins!
Other high scores: All-star Nancy Asai for Double A Orchards, 258, 237, 232 games for an awesome 727 series (her first 700 of the season); Bill Pullum for C.P.R., 259 game and 694 series; Jeremy Bloom for Mad Skilz, 235 game and 689 series; Erin Salisbury for Double A Orchards, 239, 238 games and 647 series; and Ken Espersen for Take Ten, 245 game.

2. The Red Rockets, 38 points
3. Ten in the Pit, 32 points
4. The Bowling Stones, 31 points
5. Tres Psicos, 30 points
Match results on Feb. 5 and Feb. 12: The Red Rockets have been red hot. After struggling in the first two rounds in the high-scoring Fraternal league, they have come to life all of a sudden in round three. They won 38 points in the past two weeks, elevating them to second place in the standings. Jimbo Youtsey has been “the man” in those matches, firing two solid 600s, a 654 last week and a big 698 on strike-filled 258 and 248 games in the previous week.
High scores have erupted in the Fraternal: Mike Parke (the “Doomsday Striking Ma-chine”) for Orchard Lanes, 278, 247 games and 719 series; John Helm for Ten in the Pit, 248, 247, 235, 235 games and 718 series; Chad Mason for The Bowling Stones, 278, 247 games and 684, 658 series; Jeremy Bloom, sponsor for Bloom Auto Body, 256, 246, 245 games and 683, 682 series; Ciena Brittle for The Bowling Stones, 235, 232, 223, 222 games and 644, 643 series; Josh Worth for Hood River Athletic Club, 259, 239 games and 659, 655 series; John Riggleman for Mt. Thursday afternoon County league (week five of 11 in the second half)
Standings (top teams):
1. BS-ers, 15 wins
2. Lady Ballers, 14 wins
3. Gutter Balls, 14 wins
4. Holy Rollers, 13 wins
5. The Munsons, 13 wins
So, who’s hot? After a slow start, in the past two weeks Gutter Balls enjoyed a mercurial rise in the standing by collecting eight wins against no losses. Can they keep it up? BS-ers and Lady Ballers each won six games, which moved them atop the standings. Two weeks ago, the BS-ers won a key match against the powerhouse Incredibowls trio, three games to one. The Incredibowls are led by the high average bowler in the league, Rod Pratt, but BS-ers talented anchorman, Victor Flores wasn’t intimidated as he posted nifty 225 and 202 games to key their win.
Lady Ballers won the first half of the league, so they are sitting pretty! The emerging star for Lady Ballers is Carmen Halseth, who led her team by topping her average for the three-game series by 102 pins last week. Holy Rollers moved up due to Jayda Uzun, who has shown tremendous improvement lately; she beat her average by 100 pins. And The Munsons’ rise in the standings has been paced by Kate Reid, who bettered her average by 106 pins. Bowlers who top their average by 100 pins make it extremely hard for their opponents to win a match. Great bowling, ladies!
More high scores: Rod Pratt for The Incredibowls, 233, 204, 202 games and 619 series; Thomas Houle for Over the Line, 203 game.
