Here are last week’s bowling league reports from Orchard Lanes, Hood River’s ten-pin fun spot up on the Heights:
Monday Night Industrial league:
The Rollers team (Jesse Orr, Paul Dethman and Kevin Harris) rolled into first place in the league’s third round with 91 points. The Crew is now in second with 88 points. There are four weeks to go in the third round. Key match results from last week are:
OL’7-10 got flattened by The Rollers 22-3; 3 Fingers Deep mowed down the Clear Cutters 20-5.
Aaron Troxel scattered the sticks to the tune of super 242 and 237 games on his way to a mighty nice 677 series, leading his Hood River Supply trio to an 18-7 beat-down of Orchard Lanes. Steve Byers rolled a nice 236 game for his MTS threesome to smoke Mt. Hood BBQ 16-9, despite Mike Bosse’s brilliant 255 game for the barbecuers.
Joey Sheirbon tossed a solid 236 game for Pat’s Pro Shop to edge Randy’s Painting 13-12, even though Painting sponsor Randy Nieto racked up a beautiful 246 game and 667 series.
Tuesday Nite Mixed League:
After last week’s final matches in the second half of the Mixed were tallied up, the following four teams made the grade and qualified for the league championship roll-off, which will be conducted this week:
Mad Skilz (Judy Mason, Jennifer Bloom, Bob Mason and Jeremy Bloom)
Double A Orchards (Spencer Hansen, Erin Salisbury, Aron Asai and Nancy Asai)
CPR (Sandy Holmes, Coral Worth, Dan Nakamura and Steve Silva)
Taco Tuesday (Flo Flemming, Roy Flemming, Joella Dethman and Paul Dethman)
Mad Skillz qualified for the roll-off by winning both halves; Double A made it by finishing second in both halves; and CPR and Taco Tuesday got wild card berths because they won the most points without winning or finishing second in either half. CPR had 51 points and Taco Tuesday got 46.
The four-team roll off will be a three-game contest; total pins including handicap will decide the league champion. It’s going to be remarkably interesting. Handicap could play a big role, as Taco Tuesday has quite an advantage. Taco Tuesday gets 317 pins of handicap per game, CPR gets 221 pins, Double A gets 184 and Mad Skillz gets 178. On the other hand, Mad Skillz is led by one of the best bowlers in the gorge, all-star 220-average Jeremy Bloom. Jeremy has notched two perfect 300 games and a gaudy 818 series this season. Those are mind-boggling numbers and he could easily do them again at any time. He is a formidable competitor.
But Double A is plenty tough too, as they are led by all-stars Erin Salisbury and the renowned Nancy Asai. These two pin busters produce prodigious scores every time they lace up! It’s going to be fun Tuesday night!
Last week’s big shooters in the Mixed league included Patrick Olson, who stroked a big 257 game and impressive 702 series; Ken Espersen, who racked up nifty 257 and 248 games plus a splendid 675 series; Nancy Asai, who rolled a fine 223 game; and Erin Salisbury, who logged a dandy 203 game.
Wednesday afternoon senior Colts & Fillies league:
Is the senior colts and fillies the friendliest league in the Gorge? Our seniors say they aren’t competitive, they simply bowl to socialize with friends. And, instead of having a roll-off between the winners of the first and second halves of the league to determine a league champion, they simply have a fun day! Let’s look at the current standings anyway:
We now have a four-way tie for the top spot between Skamaniacs, We Tried, Jesse’s Team and Cousins, all with 24 points. And 2 Pair is next with 23 points. Tied all the way down in eighth place are Rice Krispies and Awesome 3, who are only four points out of first. It can’t get much more even than this. Everyone is a winner and that’s the way the seniors like it!
Big shooters in the senior league last week included Ken Kramer, who rolled a flashy 212 game; Rod Pratt, who notched a solid 203 game; Sue Spellman, who shot a cracking 202 game; hubby Lynn Spellman, who matched that with his own classy 202 game; and Matt Phillips, who joined in with a keen 200 game.
Wednesday night Fraternal league:
The Fraternal league is still bunched up at the top. Currently it’s a race between the charcoal guys! The Get Hu’sum BBQ team (Coby Henning, Rob Miller and Speedy Stan Pratnicki) are in first place with 84 points. Mt. Hood BBQ is in second with 82 points; and the tough Bloom Auto Body trio is in third with 78.5 points.
Here are the results from last week’s matches:
Ten in the Pit wiped the MDs 22-3 as the Pits power player AJ Perdue went on a strike spree, notching terrific 248 and 245 games that propelled him to a big 716 series. Plus teammate John Helm also notched a skillful 244 game.
Fireballer Stan Pratnicki keyed his Get Hu’sum BBQ crew to a 21-5 trouncing of The Red Rockets. Stan pummeled the pins with a fine 709 series, capped by strike-filled 261 and 258 games.
Bryan Mason fired a solid 256 game that boosted his Bloom Auto Body crew to a 19-6 point win over Or-chard Lanes. Patrick Olson chucked a stellar 723 series in this match that included 248 and 242 games for the Lanes threesome, but it wasn’t enough to beat the tough Auto Body team.
John Riggleman was just one strike away from perfection as he racked up a mighty good 279 game which was instrumental for his Mt. Hood BBQ squad to defeat Electronics Assemblers 17-8. This match saw the return of big-hooking EA anchorman Bill Pullum, who went one better than John, starting his first game with 10 strikes in a row. But Bill’s eleventh toss in this 11th hunt for another perfecto went just a bit outside, as famous baseball announcer Bob Uecker would say, leaving the 2-4 pins. So he settled for a notable 288 game. Bill went on to log a fine 672 series.
Josh Worth starred for his Hood River Athletic Club team, shooting excellent 267 and 239 games in a neat 673 series, but it wasn’t enough as Tres Psicos nosed out the Clubbers 13.5-11.5.
Chad Mason found the range once again with a lofty 262 game and cool 688 series for The Bowling Stones.
Thursday afternoon County league:
Things are tight at the top in the County league. With only two weeks to go in the second half, five teams are in the hunt to win it.
The Munsons (Dane Backman, Tommy Hood and Jay Slack) are in first place with 24 points. The In-credibowls and Holy Rollers are tied for second with 21 points. The Unbowlievables are in fourth with 20.5 points and the Lady Ballers are in fifth place with 20 points. Any of these teams can win the second half.
Upcoming matches that may be deciders pit The Incredibowls against the talented Pins in Low Places trio this week; and The Unbowlievables have to bowl the dangerous Pins in Low Places crew next week.
Good scores in the County league last week included Melissa Werkheiser’s strong 217 and 202 games that powered her Pins in Low Places to a 3-1 win over Save the Pins; Yoyo Cervantes smacked a robust 231 game, while teammates Matt Stoneberg and Rod Pratt rolled hardy 202 games as their Incredibowls team upended The Munsons 3-1 despite Jay Slacks’s resilient 202 game for The Munsons.
Team of the week:
Patrick Olson 723
AJ Perdue 716
Stan Pratnicki 709
Chad Mason 688
Aaron Troxel 677
Total pins 3,513
Let’s GO BOWLING everyone!
