HOOD RIVER — Yarn shop Knot Another Hat is bringing the Columbia Gorge Fiber Festival back to the Best Western Hood River Inn for its fourth showing.
Kicking off Friday, April 18, at 4 p.m. with a no-host social in the Marketplace, the festival runs through Sunday, April 20. The Marketplace is free and open to the public.
The show brings hundreds of fiber enthusiasts to Hood River each year; past show attendees have come from around the Pacific Northwest, and as far as California and Idaho.
The fiber festival was founded by Yvonne Ellsworth in 2011 and ran for three years under her organization. When Ellsworth decided to step down, Knot Another Hat owner Sarah Keller, a The Dalles native, took the reins to keep the show alive.
“The show has only been gaining momentum in its first three years, and I didn’t want to see it disappear,” Keller said.
The show boasts a marketplace with more than 25 artisan vendors from around the Pacific Northwest, offering hand-dyed yarn, fiber artists, locally grown fiber and even a creamery offering both fiber and cheese from its farm. The Marketplace is free and open to the public.
In addition to the market, attendees can find workshops ranging from knitting to rigid heddle weaving. Advanced registration for workshops is required.
A new addition this year will be free demos in knitting, drop-spindle spinning, and rigid heddle weaving, which will run in the marketplace during show hours.
