THE DALLES — Get your paintbrushes ready. The Watercolor Society of Oregon (WSO) is coming to The Dalles Art Center (TDAC) on Oct. 3, initiating a month-long exhibition celebrating and teaching the beauty and versatility of a niche art form.
Initially founded in 1966 with 38 artists, WSO has evolved into a prestigious organization, harnessing approximately 600 members from across the state. As one of the nation’s premier watercolor-oriented entities, WSO is dedicated to extending appreciation and furthering the creation of traditional water-based media. Known for their signature conventions, workshops, shows and critique groups, WSO welcomes artists of any level and ability to get involved.
For residents of the Gorge, WSO’s Fall Juried Exhibition is a superb opportunity to get acclimated. Visitors will have a chance to see 80 exemplary original works by painters across the state. The exhibition will coincide with the organization’s three-day annual convention, welcoming an estimated 150 artists to The Civic Auditorium for classes, plein-air painting sessions, meetings and awards presentations. Whether well-versed in water media or entirely in the dark, guests will explore and uncover new techniques behind a unique painting approach.
This year’s exhibition will be juried by internationally renowned watercolorist Stan Miller. Based in Spokane, Miller is an award-winning artist who has taught workshops across the globe. Tasked with selecting the works for the juried show, Miller will also host a watercolor workshop at The Civic Auditorium. Act quickly; the workshop is limited to 25 students; tuition is $450.
