Thursday Dance at HR Elks

Do you already miss the dancing downtown on Thursday nights? Then head on over to the Hood River Elks Lodge for dancing to the rhythms of the Mike Stillman Band. The Elks lodge features a 2,000-square-foot dance floor. Homesteading Fair Sept. 21

The second-annual N.W. Homesteading Fair is coming to the Gorge on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

The fair offers free workshops on topics ranging from sausage making and fly-fishing to sock knitting and gardening. There will also be live music all day from Mandy Fickett, Kit Garoutte, Spilt Milk and more.

The fair will take place at the old elementary school and green space on Highway 14 in Lyle, Wash.

CAST audition for ‘Desert Cities’ Sept. 29-30

Columbia Center for the Arts Stage Troupe invites you to audition for a staged reading of Jon Robin Baitz's play “Other Desert Cities,” directed by Judie Hanel.

“Other Desert Cities” is about a daughter returning for a Christmas gathering after writing a tell-all book about a family secret. Her politically influential parents suddenly scramble with an issue they’d rather not discuss. Secrets and lies unravel, making each character more complex — and human. The play is a searing comedy with banter that dazzles and decimates.

Audition dates are Sunday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m. and Monday, Sept. 30, at 6 p.m.

Production dates are Nov. 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m. Characters needed: two men and three women.

Sioux City Kid at Trillium Cafe

Hood River has a chance to catch Sioux City Kid on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Trillium Café. “Wishing Well” is the first single off of the new record “Minutes, Miles, Troubles & Trials.” The song’s video has been featured on CMT Edge.
