Music Festival of the Gorge Sept. 19 at Waterfront Park
The first-ever Music Festival of the Gorge (MFOG) will be held this weekend in conjunction with the Gorge Kids Tri — MFOG on Sept. 19, and Kids Tri Sept. 20 — at the Hood River Waterfront Amphitheater.
The event is a fundraiser for the Matt Klee Scholarship Fund to provide music support in the Hood River County School District. Cash donations will be collected at the festival, as will those via text through the Hood River Education Foundation.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket and a picnic, or pick up food at one of the many waterfront-area businesses. Admission is free.
Coordinators Max Reitz (of Cripple Hop) and Damon Clegg (of Kleevage) have a diverse lineup of local musicians donating their time, and the City of Hood River is donating the use of the amphitheater.
Klee, who passed away May 30, 2014, from injuries sustained during a bicycle crash at Whistler Bike Park in Canada, loved both sports and music.

Million Volt Man at Horizon Christian Sept. 18-22
Dr. Dean Ortner is bringing his “Million Volt Man” show to Hood River. Dr. Ortner has been known as “The Million Volt Man” since appearing on Ripley’s Believe It Or Not before a record television audience of 100 million people. He has spent 42 years touring with the internationally acclaimed “Wonders of Science” program, demonstrating in a powerful way the principles by which all science operates. The show will be open to the public at Horizon Christian School, 700 Pacific Avenue, on the evenings of Sept. 18 - 21 from 6-8 p.m. and in White Salmon at Grace Baptist Church, 555 NW Loop Road, White Salmon, on Sept. 22 - 25 from 6-8 p.m.
Dr. Ortner has performed at World’s Fairs, Olympic Games, military academies, Camp David and the Pentagon. His live demonstrations have been witnessed by nearly eight million people, and via network television have been broadcast to over three quarters of a billion viewers. ‘Lighters’ at Moth Sept. 19
Eddie Corduroy and the Lighters play the Moth stage on Saturday, Sept. 19. It’s a night of Blues for the Soul and a rocking dance party for all the Gorge dancers. Amber Charms bellydance show returns Sept. 19
On Saturday, Sept. 19, Scarlet Thistle Studio presents Amber Charms at the Columbia Center for the Arts in Hood River at 7:30 p.m.
Amber Charms displays traditional and contemporary interpretations of the ancient art form known as belly dance.
