WHITE SALMON — Roadwork on Spring Street between Gaddis Park/Navaho Road and Spring Street Reservoir/East of Champion Lane began Monday, Nov. 17, the City of White Salmon announced.Â
Residents should expect road closures and signed detours through the end of the week, Friday, Nov. 21, with potential 15-minute traffic control delays in the work zone.
Construction originally began on July 28 and involves building the new North Main Booster Pump Station. The pump station is a major investment in White Salmon’s water system designed to improve both everyday water service and emergency fire flow capacity for residents in the North Main/Simmons Road pressure zone, addressing a long-standing deficiency in reservoir storage capacity.Â
The pump station will be connected to the Spring Street Reservoir, which has sufficient capacity to meet current and future needs.Â
The city has selected Ajax NW as the contractor for the project following a competitive bid process. Funding comes from a $2,406,034.44 Public Works Board Loan as well as $177,500 in ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funding that was allocated by city council.
Apart from constructing the utility building and pump system, the project’s scope includes: installing new underground water lines to improve water flow and capacity; adding fire hydrants, shut-off valves, and water meters to improve fire protection and water service for homes and businesses; and repairing roads and areas impacted by construction, as well as adding retaining walls to support the terrain.
