THE DALLES — The Dalles Lions’ 51st annual Christmas tree pick up is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 13. Bill Hamilton, chairman, said people should put their trees at the curb that day and club members will pick them up.
“We will knock on your door for a donation, or leave an envelope to mail back to us,” he said. All funds raised support local needs, he said — including scholarships, Parks and Rec projects, sight and hearing support — with more than $83,000 given since its inception.
The Dalles Disposal furnishes the equipment and personnel each year in support of the project, Hamilton said.

HOOD RIVER — Hood River Lions will pick up Christmas trees for recycling on Saturday, Jan. 20 beginning at 9 a.m. Be sure to remove all decorations and stands, as these trees will be recycled into mulch.
The route covers all streets within the city limits of Hood River, as well as the following areas that border or are close to the city limits: Stonegate, Summitview and Summitview West areas off of Frankton Road and Post Canyon Drive, and streets that are accessed off of Avalon Drive, 22nd Street and Henderson Road. Additionally, the Lions will pick up trees on Arrowhead Avenue, Broken Tee Drive and the south side of Eliot Drive.
Have your trees at the curb by 9 a.m., as the Lions make one pass through each area before moving to the next. Make sure the tree is visible from the road and not hidden behind parked vehicles.
If your tree is missed, you can leave a comment on the Hood River Lions Facebook page or send a message on the Facebook page, and club members will do their best to pick it up by Sunday, said Lions Club member Greg Simpson.
Donations will be accepted; a door hanger will be left, but members will not make personal contact. Donations may also be sent to Hood River Lions Club, PO Box 860, Hood River, OR 97031. Funds will be directed to FISH Food Bank and Meals on Wheels.
