HOOD RIVER — Big River Community Land Trust has broken ground for a new home at 1676 Trucker Road. This is the first of a number of homes to be built over the next few years by the land trust, and is an important step toward increasing affordable homeownership opportunities for workforce families in the region.
“We are excited to see Big River moving forward with their first community land trust project,” said Hood River Mayor Paul Blackburn. “By creating more affordable housing, they are adding another piece to the affordable housing puzzle. We are thankful to have them here in the community, and glad we could support this project.”
This single home is being built on land gifted by the City of Hood River, furthering the community’s commitment to affordable housing. Scheduled for completion in fall 2025, the home will be priced below $360,000 — offering a rare opportunity for affordable homeownership in the area.
In partnership with Simplicity by Hayden Homes, this is a 3-bedroom, 2.5-bath home with a garage. While it will be an affordable housing option, it does not compromise on quality or comfort. This home boasts modern amenities such as quartz countertops, air conditioning, and a 220-volt outlet in the garage. Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, the house will also come equipped with solar panels, further reducing utility bills.
Those interested in purchasing the home are encouraged to sign up for the prospective buyer’s list at www.bigriverclt.org or contact BRCLT at info@bigriverclt.org for more information. Those interested in supporting the building of this or future Trust homes are also encouraged to reach out to the same address.
