HOOD RIVER – Deputies from the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched about 1 p.m. Dec. 28 to the Family Man Staging Area on a report of suspicious activity.
When deputies arrived, there was about four inches of snow in the area. They found a trail of blood leading north of the staging area, which is a developed recreational site owned and maintained by the county.
Approximately a quarter mile north of the parking lot, deputies discovered the body of an adult female.
The Mid-Columbia Major Crimes Team and Oregon State Police Forensics Lab were called to the scene. The crimes team consists of detectives from OSP and law enforcement agencies in Hood River and Wasco counties.
An autopsy of the victim took place today at the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office in Clackamas. The identity of the female and the cause of her death was not available as of press time Tuesday.
This case is being investigated as a homicide, according to Hood River County Sheriff Matt English.
He said any additional information that can released will be posted as it becomes available.
The area where the body was found is used by walkers, runners, mountain bikers and ATV riders. The site is located off Riordan Hill Drive but can be accessed from the Post Canyon and Binn’s Hill areas.
English asks that anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the staging area within the last 48 hours calls the sheriff’s office tip line at 541 387-7077.
