Three injured in White Salmon accident

"Two vehicles were southbound on Main Street at a high rate of speed, side by side," said Trooper Clack.

Vehicle one, a 1986 Honda Civic, was operated by Josue Jimenez, 18, White Salmon, with two passengers -- Miriam Hijon, 17, and Marion Hijon, 17.

Vehicle two, a 1989 Mazda, was operated by Jegar LaGrander, 17, White Salmon, with three passengers -- Brice Sorensen, 17, Amber Casey, 15, and Trenton Morneault, 15.

According to the report, Jimenez lost control of his vehicle on the wet pavement, leaving approximately 200 feet of skid marks before impacting an unoccupied parked car owned by Joe Balsiger of White Salmon. The impact knocked Balsiger's car into his front yard.

The Jimenez vehicle came to rest on its wheels near the centerline, facing north.

Jimenez suffered serious injuries to his face and chest and was transported to Skyline Hospital by ambulance.

One of the twin sisters, sitting in the right front passenger seat, was ejected from the vehicle. She suffered facial injuries, and possible hip and knee injuries. She was transported to Emanuel Hospital in Portland.

The second twin, who was sitting in the rear seat, impacted the windshield. She suffered facial injuries and possible hip injuries and was also transported to Emanuel Hospital in Portland.

Both sisters are reported to be in stable, nonlife threatening condition.

None of the injured students were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.

The LaGrander vehicle left the scene of the accident and the driver was later returned, Trooper Clack said.

The case is under investigation for vehicular assault, a felony crime, by the Washington State Patrol.
