HOPE relay race deadline approaches

Registrations for the June 8 HOPE Bike, Paddle and Run for Cover are due Friday, May 31. Individuals or teams of two or three in this three-part race, which includes a 10K bike portion, a 5K run, and a 3K kayak course. Registration forms can be picked up at Outdoor Play at 6 Oak Street, Hood River. Call 386-9144 or email hope@gorge.net with questions. Cost is $25 per individual ($15 for 18 and younger) and includes a T-shirt and raffle tickets. All proceeds benefit HOPE’s emergency shelter program.

Skatepark committee meeting

Hood River Valley Parks and Recreation will hold a Skatepark Committee meeting Tuesday, May 28, at 6:30 p.m. in the Aquatic Center. Topics to be discussed include fundraising, Family Day on June 22, and general skatepark maintenance. Call Lori Stirn at 386-5720 with questions.

Community Education youth soccer

Hood River Community Education is still accepting registrations for boys and girls soccer players entering grades K-2 (not age) to play in its summer league. Teams will be set according to areas and will be co-ed. Practices will begin June 18, and games will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays in July from 6-7 p.m. Each team plays six games. Parents please note that it is your responsibility to make sure your child is at the appropriate school on June 18. Parkdale kids should meet at Parkdale Elementary; Odell kids at Wy’east Middle School; Cascade Locks kids at Cascade Locks School and Hood River kids at Westside. All areas meet at 6 p.m. The $30 league fee includes a T-shirt. Call 386-2055 with questions.

Tennis leagues set to begin in June

A men’s Tuesday night doubles league is set to begin play June 11 at the City Tennis Courts. League is limited to eight teams and play will continue for eight weeks. Cost is $15. The Thursday night women’s doubles league will begin play June 13, while the Wednesday night Mixed Doubles league will begin June 12. Leagues are limited to eight teams and play will continue for eight weeks. Cost is $15.

Venturing crew sought for summer

Boys and girls ages 14-19 interested in water sports are

encouraged to sign up for a new “venturing crew” to participate in twice-monthly outdoor adventures, including kayaking, windsurfing and kiteboarding. Co-sponsored by Hood River WaterPlay and the Boy Scouts of America, all activities are free and equipment is provided. The first outing took place May 15, but participants are still needed. Call Jak or Carla at 386-9463 with questions or to sign up. Parents who would like to volunteer a minimum two hours a month are also asked to call.
