The Dalles High Riverhawks boys doubles tennis team of juniors Paul Capek and Paul Kelly took third place in the OSAA Class 5A state tournament last month at the Babette Horenstein Tennis Center in Beaverton.
The Hood River girls tennis team sent doubles team senior Brissa Rojas and junior Vivian Olson to the OSAA State Tennis tournament in Portland on May 20. Despite back-to-back losses, head coach Margaret Bogard said both Rojas and Olson grew as tennis players.
In two league matchups with Pendleton, the Lady Buckaroos have been able to get the close wins when it counted. Earlier in the season, Pendleton won 11-10 on total sets won, and Tuesday, they secured three doubles victories and tacked on a pair of wins on the singles side, two of those decisions coming in close third-set tiebreakers in a 5-3 triumph.
As district play quickly approaches, The Dalles girls tennis team is on a major roll. Over their last five matches, the Riverhawks are 4-1 with their only loss coming on April 20 versus Pendleton, where the contest ended deadlocked at 4-4, but the Bucks scored the 11-10 win based on total sets.
Over the last few years, Hood River Valley has been a thorn on the side of The Dalles girls tennis team. Tuesday was another story. In four doubles matches, TD cruised to a lopsided sweep and finished its 7-1 romp by scoring three of four singles wins in a varsity contest played at The Dalles High School.
