Gorge Food Access Survey extended — Those in Hood River, Wasco, Sherman, Klickitat and Skamania counties can take the survey at beav.es/GorgeFoodSurvey through Nov. 7. Twenty participants will be chosen at random to receive a $50 gift card. “The 2015 Gorge Food Access Survey helped bring in more than $25 million to support local programs,” said an Oregon State University press release. “We would love to learn more about food access in the Gorge to develop initiatives that improve the health of our community. This survey is open to anyone in our region.”
Uplift Local meeting briefs
Stevenson City Council, Aug. 21 — New sewer rules are still a sore point: A proposal by Councilmembers Cox and Rice to delay connection fees (and fines) until 2026 failed. The price of a new fire truck will be somewhere between $535,000-$600,000. And business licenses are going up from $10-$25 a year. From Documenter Emily Harris, Uplift Local.
Wy’East Rural Fire District Board, Aug. 14 — Seismic upgrades for the Pine Grove fire station are almost done — lipstick on a pig, but it won’t fall down, says the project advisor. A replacement tank looks like the best option for a leaky water truck, and the district is recovering after a very disruptive stolen check. From Documenter Karen Heinemann, Uplift Local.
Tooley Water District Special meeting, Aug. 13 — After previously wrestling with the problem of the financial need to charge monthly water fees even to people who lost their homes in the Rowena Fire and can’t use the water, the board approved their first grant application to try to cover some of those costs.
