Collegiate Softball:
Central Washington first baseman Mallory Holtman suffered a broken wrist in a February game against Cal State-Bakersfield and will miss the rest of the 2005 season.
According to CWU sports information director Jonathan Gordon, Holtman, a sophomore from White Salmon, is expected to be granted an injury waiver, called a redshirt, which would give her another season of eligibility.
Winter Sports:
Mt. Hood Meadows on Monday suspended lift operations again, making Timberline the only local ski area still open for business.
Meadows officials blamed recent warm weather--and the resulting reduced snowpack--for what they hope will be only a temporary closure.
Snowfall in upper elevations is forecast for later this week and the return to wintery weather could leave Meadows with enough snow to re-open for spring skiing.

Trico Division champion Castle Rock and division runnerup Ridgefield bowed out of last week's state tournament in Yakima after playing a combined five games.
Third-ranked Lynden Christian sent No. 4 Castle Rock packing for home last Friday after beating the Rockets handily, 55-38.
Castle Rock (21-5) was upset in its opener by Quincy, 36-32, but stayed in the trophy hunt on Thursday with a 40-29 loser-out victory over defending champion Hoquiam.
SW Washington District 4 winner Ridgefield (21-4) got blown out on day one, 66-44, by dark-horse contender Chimacum, which subsequently advanced to the tourney semifinals. It was the Spudders' third opening-day loss in as many years.
Another District 4 entry, unheralded Forks, eliminated the fifth-ranked Spudders last Thursday, by a score of 48-38. (Forks went on to place eighth.)
Since the realignment of the 2A classification in 1998, only one Trico Division boys basketball team has won a state trophy. That was the 2003 Ilwaco squad, which went 2-2 and placed seventh.
Medical Lake claimed the 2005 state title, edging Quincy, 44-41, in Saturday's championship game.

Class 2A Girls Basketball:
The only souvenirs the Trico Division's three entries in last week's state tournament went away with were the usual assortment of trinkets and t-shirts.
Top-rated East Valley of Yakima knocked Trico co-champ and SW Washington District 4 winner Woodland (19-7) out of the trophy running last Friday, delivering a 52-42 blow to the sixth-ranked Beavers' trophy aspirations in consolation-bracket action.
Trico co-champion La Center, playing without two-time Trico player of the year Tanya Baker, was ousted on the second day of last week's state championships in Yakima.
The seventh-ranked Wildcats (20-5) fell to No. 2-rated King's of Seattle, 58-40, on day one, then endured a 66-33 spanking from Woodland's Beavers, on day two.
Unranked Ridgefield defeated Steilacoom, 61-56, on opening day but couldn't sustain the momentum.
The Spudders (17-9) lost to Chewelah, 65-42, in Thursday's quarterfinal round, then had their trophy bid sacked by Mount Baker, 66-47, in consolation play.
King's won the tournament, clipping Chewelah, 59-55, in Saturday's title tilt.
