GLENWOOD HOMEMAKERS
The week ending June 10 was a busy one in Glenwood. Eighth graders who were promoted to the high school ranks graduated Friday night. Those graduates included Jamie Booher, Audrey Hill, Amy Keithly, Brian Langfield, Julia LaVallie and Tygh Schuster. Best wishes for educational and enjoyable years in high school.
The 2006 Glenwood High School senior class members (valedictorian Josie Masden, salutatorian Stacey Ruland, Bernadette Campbell, Koleen Hansen, Justin Holly and Willard Sutterlict) received their diplomas and scholarship awards on Saturday afternoon, followed by celebrations with family and friends.
As a word of advice to all future seniors "apply for every scholarship you possibly can." I believe several members of the 2006 GHS graduating class would agree. Their efforts resulted in the award of some outstanding scholarships this year. Following is a listing of awards, recognitions and scholarships received by this year's graduates.
Josie Masden -- valedictorian medallion, honor roll certificate and pin, Washington State Principals Scholar program, James Leaton Memorial Scholarship, Allied Waste Services Scholarship $2,500, Glenwood Homemakers Scholarship $300, White Salmon Lions Club Scholarship $500, Washington State University Scholarships (Washington State Need Grant $5,156, Educational Opportunity Grant $2,500, SEOG Grant $100, Pell Grant $4,050), ACTRA Team Roping Scholarship $700, Washington Contract Loggers Association Scholarship $1,000, Hugo Johnson Memorial Scholarship $500, Glenwood Women's Club Scholarship, and the "Good Jill" Award. Josie was very busy taking college credit classes through Walla Walla Community College via the Running Start Program her final two years at GHS. Josie's dedication and hard work earned her not only credits for high school graduation, but she also completed enough college credits to receive her associate of arts degree. Although the Running Start program has been in effect in Glenwood for several years, Josie was the first GHS student to graduate from high school with her AA. Josie has been accepted into Washington State University and will be pursuing a bachelor of science degree in nursing.
Stacey Ruland -- Salutatorian medallion, honor roll certificate and pin, Glenwood Education Association Scholarship, Allied Waste Service Scholarship $2,500, Linda Spies Memorial Scholarship $1,000, Glenwood Homemakers Scholarship $300, Clark College Foundation Scholarship $3,000 to $4,000, Public School Employee's Scholarship $500, Hugh Johnson Memorial Scholarship $500, Greater Mid Columbia B Scholar Athlete Scholarship, Jason B. Sanchey Memorial Award, and Glenwood Women's Club Scholarship. Stacey will be attending Clark College.
Bernadette Campbell -- Frederick H. Blake Memorial Scholarship $1,000, Clark College Foundation Scholarship (Austin-Beryl Edmonds Scholarship $1,800), Congressman Brian Baird's Political Leadership and Community Involvement Scholarship $500, and Glenwood Women's Club Scholarship. Bernadette will be attending Clark College.
Congratulations to each of the graduates and best wishes as they pursue their goals in life. Nathan Eaves, a CHS junior, received the "Good Joe" Award, as well.
