The Glenwood Rodeo Association hosts the 71st annual Ketchum Kalf Rodeo this Saturday and Sunday--Father's Day weekend--at the Glenwood Rodeo Grounds.
Rodeo action begins at 1 p.m. each day and will include everything from calf roping to bull riding, to barrel racing.
Following Saturday's session, the arena will be raked for the start of a jackpot team roping competition at around 4 p.m.
According to rodeo association secretary-treasurer Roxie Clemmer, stock contractor Dave Gutierrez of Goldendale's Swale Creek Productions is offering belt buckles to the average winners (one for headers and one for heelers).
In addition, Gutierrez plans to donate a portion of team roping proceeds to help two Goldendale High School team members defray travel expenses to the National High School Finals Rodeo in Gillette, Wyo., Clemmer said.
During the event, spectators will be able to enjoy a barbecue dinner of ribs ($10), pork ($8) or chicken ($8) with trimmings and beverage.
Sunday will be just as busy, starting at 6:30 a.m. with the traditional Cowboy Breakfast at the Glenwood School. The chuckwagon will be open until 10.
At 11, a rodeo parade will pass through downtown Glenwood and end at the rodeo grounds as a lead-up to the second session of rodeo action.
Other Sunday events include hat and stickhorse races for kids and a bed roll race for adults, which features a winner's prize of $100.
"There'll be something for everybody, a lot of good family fun," Clemmer said.
