Three earn UW degrees
Three students from the White Salmon area graduated from the University of Washington in June.
The students and their degrees are Kelsay Knutson, bachelor degree in environmental studies, ecology and conservation; Alison Kreiter, bachelor degree in social welfare; and Jessica Strain, bachelor degree in political science.
Zimbelman earns Whitman degree
Eloise Zimbelman, a CHS graduate, has earned her bachelor of arts degree in biology, cum laude, from Whitman College in Walla Walla.
Two graduates OSU
Shenandoah Steffy of Trout Lake and Adam B. St. Savious of Underwood were two of more than 4,600 students who earned their degrees during Oregon State University's 142 annual commencement on June 11.
Steffy earned her bachelor of arts degree in liberal studies.
St. Saviour earned his master of science in fisheries science.
Klobas graduates from Walla Walla U
Krysta Elizabeth Klobas, daughter of Elizabeth Klobas of Lyle and Gordon Klobas of Troutdale, Ore., graduated June 12 from Walla Walla University in College Place.
She received her bachelor of science degree in nursing, cum laude.
She is employed in the cardiac unit at Adventist Medical Center in Portland, Ore.
Butler graduates summa cum laude
Whitney Keegan Butler of White Salmon graduated with highest honors, Summa Cum Laude (grade point average of 3.85 or higher, from Humboldt State University with a bachelor of science degree in forestry and a minor in environment ethics.
Graduation ceremonies were held on May 14, 2011.
Barkhimer earns promotion
Capt. Tracy Barkhimer, wife of Erik Barkhimer, daughter-in-law of William and Diane Barkhimer, long time residents of White Salmon, became the new Program Manager Air Combat Electronics, PMA-209, following a change of command ceremony today in the atrium of the Rear. Adm. William A. Moffett building at Patuxent River, Md.
Air Combat Electronics champions development, integration and cradle-to-grave support for common avionics solutions in safety, connectivity, mission computing and interoperability.
A native of Staten Island, New York, Barkhimer graduated from the State University of New York Maritime College in 1988 with a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering and a USCG Unlimited Tonnage, Any Ocean, Third Mates' License and was commissioned an Ensign in the Navy.
Upon completion of flight school, she reported to Helicopter Combat Support Squadron (HC) Three in San Diego for Fleet Replenishment training in the CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter.
Barkhimer's personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for a single action.
