Prep Volleyball

Among the league matches to watch this week were Tuesday's scheduled pairings of Klickitat and TLG in Trout Lake, and Lyle/Wishram and Bickleton, in Bickleton.

At TLG 3, Bickleton 1:

In Trout Lake, the Mustang Eagles dropped the first set to the Pirates, 25-15, but regrouped to win the next three, 25-19, 25-10, 25-16.

Liz Vogt tallied 12 kills, 10 blocks (two for kills) and four aces for TLG, and Veronica Glenn finished with six kills and four aces (10/11 serving).

The match turned in TLG's favor in the third set, with Chelsea Cox at the service line. Cox (25/27, 5 aces) sparked a seven-point run for TLG that the Pirates couldn't counter.

Noted TLG Coach Angie Cox, "Bickleton plays with a lot of hustle, but our girls were able to capitalize on some mistakes to take the win."

Klickitat 3, at Sunnyside Christian 1:

The Vandals had to overcome a first-set loss in their GCB and season opener last Thursday.

Sunnyside took that first set, 25-18, but Klickitat closed out the match with 25-17, 25-12, 25-14 wins.

Samantha Brewer registered 19 kills and three blocks in the middle of the Vandals' attack, while outside hitters Lara Parsons and Martisha Woodall combined for 11 kills.

From the service line, Klickitat clicked for 17 aces--five by Brewer (15/18), and three each by Woodall (10/11), Cassie Clack (19/23) and Ashley Meeks (12/13).

At King's Way 3, Lyle/Wishram 0:

The Cougars lost the non-league match in straight sets last Thursday, 25-17, 25-21, 25-17.

Karlee Roth (5 kills, ace), Kristin Hylton (2 kills, 2 aces) and Brianna Brock (8 assists, ace) stood out for Lyle/Wishram.

At City Christian Tournament:

TLG defeated Southwest Christian in three sets last Saturday to win the tournament played in Portland, Ore.

"The championship game was a rematch between us and the only team to beat us during pool play," noted TLG Coach Angie Cox. "It was an exciting match, with both teams giving everything they had."

The Eagle Mustangs won the final, 25-13, 16-14, after dropping the first set, 25-19. They advanced to the title tilt with bracket-play victories over City Christian and Vancouver Christian.

Middle blocker Liz Vogt racked up 45 kills, mostly off deft sets by Chelsea Cox, who finished with 51 assists. Vogt, who was named to the all-tournament team, added 11 aces from the service line, while Cox went 32/35 with eight aces.

Veronica Glenn chipped in with 10 kills and four aces; Dakota Jones tallied 22 assists, six aces and four kills; and Tasha Johnson led the defense with 12 digs.

At South Wasco Tournament:

The Vandals faced the host Redsides in Saturday's championship match and needed four sets to win it.

Klickitat lost 26-24 in the first set--its only setback of the day--but bounced back to win the next three, 25-7, 25-15, 25-14.

Samantha Brewer paced the Vandals with 34 kills, 15 blocks and 12 service aces. Ashley Meeks furnished 31 assists and six aces, Martisha Woodall had five kills, and Lara Parsons scored with four kills and nine aces.
