Sophomore Corrine Blankenship scored the game's first two points Tuesday night, but that was the CHS junior varsity's only lead over visiting Ridgefield.
The closest the Junior Bruins (1-8) got the rest of the way during their 48-18 loss was two points midway through the first quarter.
Ridgefield's Spudniks scored the first basket of the second quarter to put their lead in double figures. Capitalizing on 13 CHS first-half turnovers, Ridgefield stretched its lead to 26-10 at the half.
In the second half, the Junior Bruins again had trouble hanging onto the ball, committing 15 turnovers. They also had problems putting the ball in the basket; in the third period they failed to score and went into the final stanza down 37-10.
Junior Krista Bakke led the CHS squad with five points. Sophomore Corrine Blankenship followed with four.
On the boards, junior Jessica Mosbrucker's six rebounds led the Junior Bruins to a 31-21 advantage.
Bakke pulled down five, junior Kelsay Knutson (2 steals) gathered in four, and Blankenship and junior Constance Henderson each had three.
Freshmen Renee England and Megan Shinn added two rebounds each to the CHS tally.
Contributing to the team's final point total were: sophomore Megan Harvey 2, freshman Rebecca Clary 2, Henderson 2, Mosbrucker 2 and Knutson 1.
At Wahtonka JV 33, Columbia JV 28 --
The Junior Bruins quickly fell behind last Friday as the Eagle Nestlings scored the first eight points of the game.
But after the slow start, they started to find the bottom of the net, outscoring Wahtonka 9-7 in the second quarter to trail 19-15 at the break.
CHS's deficit remained four after three quarters. In the fourth, the Eagle Nestlings led by as many as 10 (33-23).
But the Junior Bruins didn't go down quietly. They staged one last rally, scoring the game's final five points before time ran out.
The primary issues for the team were 38 turnovers and a 4-for-15 effort from the foul line.
For Columbia, Becky Clary took team scoring honors, making 3-of-5 shots for six points. Megan Harvey followed with five points.
Corrine Blankenship's seven rebounds represented nearly a fourth of CHS's 30.
Freshman Kelly McNallan snared five rebounds, and Harvey and Krista Bakke each collected four.
Bakke also furnished four blocks and five steals. Freshman Alycia Rohwer stole four balls, while Becky Clary and Kelly McNallan each nabbed two.
Rounding out the scoring were: Bakke 4, Jessica Mosbrucker 4, Rohwer 3, Blankenship 2, Renee England 2, and Constance Henderson 2.
