Alleda Z. Jones
Alleda Catherine Z. Jones was born in Hood River, Ore., on Feb. 13, 1911 to Victor and Roseanne Beauregard, a few months after the family moved from Boston.
Alleda passed peacefully on Aug. 4, 2001.
She grew up and attended Hood River City schools and earned a degree in education from Western Oregon University. Alleda was a teacher for 37 years, always preferring the primary grades and forever committed to the well being of her students.
While teaching at the Odell grade school in Oregon she met William R. Jones and they were married in 1939. William was a teacher and a coach at the Odell High School. After three more years at Odell High School William served in the Navy for the duration of World War II. During this time Alleda taught in Westport and Astoria, Ore. She retired from teaching in 1972 from Clatskanie Grade School.
Alleda enjoyed sewing and knitting for her grandchildren and traveling internationally. She considered the Hood River Valley to be the most beautiful place in the world. Alleda was an endlessly generous and compassionate person whose playfully clever wit brought smiles to all with whom she shared her life.
Alleda lived in retirement in Hood River for 10 years, and in The Dalles for 14 years before moving to Down Manor in Hood River in 1998.
Alleda is survived by her three sisters, Louise Shaw of The Dalles, Adeline Leatherberry of West Linn, and Maxine Deadmond of Roseburg.
She is also survived by her son and daughter in-law, Michael and Joann Jones, Kenmore, Wash., and her four grandchildren and their spouses, Bethany and Ryan Leland, Aaron and Shelby Jones, Andrea and Morrie Matlick, Seattle; and Brian and Angeletta Jones, Melbourne, Australia.
Also surviving are her five great-grandchildren, Samantha and Taylor Leland, Isabelle and Maria Matlick, and Elijah Jones.
A Funeral Mass was held in Kirkland, Washington at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. A Graveside Service for Alleda will be held Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001 at 2:30 p.m. at Aurora Community Cemetery in Aurora, Ore.

Irene Hepner
Silven Irene Hepner died on Aug. 2, 2001 at her home in Odell, Ore. She was 77 years old.
Irene was born on Jan. 31, 1924 in Parlier, Calif., to Chester and Mary Lee (Day) Davis. She grew up in Parlier and it was there that she met George Hepner.
The couple was marrried on April 20, 1946 in Kingsburg, Calif., where they made their home. In 1964 the family moved to Odell. Irene and George moved to White Salmon, where they lived for a few years before moving back to Odell.
Irene stayed at home until her children were grown and then she went to work at Diamond Fruit as a sorter.
She liked to camp, fish and do some handwork. She also loved to work in her yard.
Irene's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to her, and what she lived for.
Irene is survived by her husband, George, of Odell, children Richard, Donald, Doug and Clifford, all of White Salmon, and Dorothy Matulovich of Carson, Wash.
She is also survived by her brothers, J.C. Davis of Temple, Texas, and Everett Davis of Fresno, Calif., and sisters Marie Schroeder of Clovis, Calif., and Mabel Parson of Readley, Calif.
Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren Laurie Wangelin, Shellie Banks, Mike Hepner, Darin Hepner, Dewayne Matuovich, Lisa Hepner, Becky Hepner, and Nicole Hepner, and great-grandchildren Courtney and Colton Smith, Brittney Wangelin and Katelyn and Emily Banks.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents and by an older sister, Opal May.
Graveside service will be held on Aug. 8 at 11:30 a.m. at Wind River Memorial Cemetery in Carson, Wash., with a visitation at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon on Aug. 7 from noon to 5 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice in care of Gardner Funeral Home, which was in charge of arrangements.
Harold Wilbur Dorzab
Harold W. Dorzab, 81, died Aug. 2, 2001 at his Ocean Park, Wash., residence. The son and last surviving child of William and Leola (Regester) Dorzab, he was born Dec. 12, 1919 in California, Mo.
Harold received his education in Missouri and moved with his family to Hood River in 1938. There he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, worked in area orchards and fruit packing operations and during World War II worked in Portland area shipyards. As a young man he enjoyed riding his Indian motorcycle.
Harold was a mechanic for Richards Motors in Hood River until 1958 when he went to work as Luhr Jenson maintenance man. He retired as maintenance supervisor in 1981 but continued on as a consultant until 1989. Following retirment he moved to Ocean Park where he had previously built a summer residence.
While living in Hood River he was a member of Parkdale Church of the Nazarene and currently was a member of Peninsula Church of the Nazarene, where he volunteered for His Supper Table. He enjoyed carpentry and could seemingly build something out of nothing. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and the day before his death caught his limit of salmon at Buoy 10.
His family will remember him as a "fisher of men," an exceptional storyteller who was honest to a fault and whose favorite occupation was being a Grandpa.
He and Rita Sharkey were married on Nov. 11, 1981 in Stevenson, Wash., and she survives. He previously was married to Edna Dearixon. He is also survived by children Jerry Dorzab of Hood River, Helen Irish of Junction City, Ore., Richard Dozab of Keher, Hawaii, Sandie Fischer of Parkdale, Glenneda Sulgrove of Forsyth, Mo., Renneth Sullenger of Hood River, and Julie Miller of Gray Bull, Wyo. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Aug. 7, 2001 at Peninsula Church of the Nazarene, Long Beach, Wash. Private burial will be Wednesday morning, Aug. 8 at Pine Grove Cemetery, and a memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Aug. 8 at Hood River Alliance Church.

Margaret Furrow
Margaret Lucille Furrow, a former Hood River, Ore., resident, died July 22 in Medford, Ore., at the age of 88.
A memorial mass will be held Aug. 17 at 1 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hood River.
