WILMA WILKES
Wilma Louise Wilkes, 75, a resident of Underwood, died at a care facility in The Dalles on Friday, May 30, 2008.
She was born in Hartville, Mo., on Oct. 8, 1932, the fifth of six children to William Harley Garner and Lorraine Izetta (Tafel) Garner. Her family moved to The Dalles when she was four years old and where she graduated from The Dalles High School.
She is survived by her sisters, Irene George and Ila Stewart and three brothers, Howard W. Garner, Henry C. Garner and William R. Garner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Anton Wilkes, and her parents.
Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-Quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
FRANKIE HACKMAN
Frankie Lynn Hackman, died unexpectedly on "Mother's Day" Sunday, May 11, 2008 with her daughter by her side at a Pine Top, Arizona hospital.
Her death was very untimely, the result of a heart attack and was taken away much too early...she was only 38.
Ms. Hackman was born March 9, 1970, in Phoenix, Ariz. She grew up in Arizona and moved to the Columbia Gorge area when she was 16 living in both Hood River and White Salmon over the years. Almost a year and a half ago she moved to Arizona where she met and was engaged to marry Vern Lewis.
She worked for the Underwood Fruit Company for almost 10 years and more recently for the Elks Lodge, the Heights Shell station and Annz Panz. She was excited and was working at a local Country Club and Golf Course in Pine Top, Ariz.
She had several hobbies and activities but above all she loved spending time with her daughter and watching her softball games.
Ms. Hackman is survived and will be dearly missed by her two daughters Amber Kitchen, Hood River, Ore., and Mariaya Kitchen, Waikukus; her grandma Reeny Hackman, Hood River; extended family in Arizona and many, many friends.
There are no services planned. Her memorial services were conducted in Arizona.
MAUDE GIBBS
Maude Isabel Gibbs died in Lyle on May 30, 2008, at the age of 98. She was born July 12, 1909, to Alta Mae Marks Church and David Lafayette Church in Joseph, Ore.
She loved horses and spent her childhood making rag dolls and attending a small county school, where she finished her first two grades in less than a year. She graduated high school at age 17 and then went on to attend the Teacher's College in Monmouth, Ore. She taught for two years before marrying her husband, Rex Gibbs, in April 1930.
Aside from her time as a mother and wife, Maude worked in the Joseph sawmill, at the Lyle Mercantile as a meat cutter, as treasurer for the Lyle Full Gospel Assembly, and babysat many grandchildren and other children in the community.
Mrs. Gibbs was preceded in death by her husband Rex in 1957; her son Ronald Gibbs in 1956; and her daughter Macel Haines in 1976.
She is survived by her daughters Sylvia and Colleen, both of Lyle, and son Donald of Texas. She was a beloved "Grammie" not only to her 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, but also to many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Lyle Celebration Center. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Enterprise, Ore.
ALYSSA SPRATT-PEREZ
Alyssa Spratt-Perez, infant daughter of Vanessa Spratt and Fernando Perez, died in Portland, Ore., on June 1, 2008.
She was born prematurely, but gave her family three incredibly special hours before succumbing to complications. Though her time was brief, she touched her family's lives in a powerful way. She will always be loved and remembered.
A graveside service was held on Sunday, June 8, 2008, at the White Salmon Cemetery.
The baby is survived by her parents, Vanessa Spratt and Fernando Perez, White Salmon; sister Kyana Perez, Hood River; grandparents Karla and David Spratt, Bingen, Maria and Jose Perez, White Salmon; great grandparents Ida and Steve Everroad, Hood River, and Francis Gaddis, White Salmon; and uncles Carl Spratt, Josue Perez and Joel Perez, all of Bingen.

DOLORES BRYAN
Lyle resident Dolores Ann Bryan, 73, died at her home Friday, June 6, 2008, after a long battle with cancer.
The family will hold a reception at the Lions Club in Lyle on Sunday, June 22, 2008, from 2 to 4 p.m.
A private service for family will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Bryan was born Aug. 3, 1934, in Portland, Ore., to Jim and Eva Hensley. She moved to Lyle in 1940.
On Aug. 8, 1952, she married Jack Bryan and was a homemaker. She enjoyed going to the Oregon Beaches and she loved a rainy day.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Eva Scott, on July 5, 1993.
Survivors include her husband, her daughters Jackie Dornfeld, Gresham, Ore., and Lisa Griffith, Battle Ground;four grandchildren Jill Dornfeld, Jeff Dornfeld, Brad Griffith and Bryan Griffith.

DELBERT DICKSON
Delbert Roger Dickson, M.D., originally from The Dalles, Ore., died June 1, 2008, at his Underwood home. He was 85 years of age and passed away after a long battle with systemic amyloidosis.
A celebration of his life was held on Sunday, June 8, 2008, at the home of Don & Arlene Bradford. A tribute to Dr. Dickson will be held at a later date in Santa Barbara, Calif. Graveside rites will follow later at The Santa Barbara Cemetery.
Dr. Dickson was born to George Delbert and Montine (Young) Dickson on Dec. 16, 1922, in Long Beach, Calif. His family returned to the Oregon homestead when he was a young child. His youth was spent living out on Eight Mile Creek, in Dufur, in Snowden, and eventually in The Dalles. He graduated from The Dalles High School in 1940.
He continued his education and received his bachelors degree from the University of Oregon in Eugene, and as anyone would tell you, he was a life long Duck's fan. He attended medical school at the University of Oregon Medical School in Portland (now OHSU) with the class of 1946.
After earning his MD, Dr. Dickson served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy Medical Corps where he completed a two year internship at Aeia Heights Hospital at Pearl Harbor, followed by a first year residency at the Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, and finally receiving orders to report to the USS General William Mitchell.
He completed his military service in 1950 and on July 1, 1950, began his second year residency in Pathology at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, Calif.. His final year of residency was spent at Sawtelle Veterans Hospital in Los Angeles, Calif. Following this, he returned to Santa Barbara and Cottage Hospital for the rest of his (practicing) life.
In 1948, he married Phyllis Webster who he had earlier met on Mt. Hood while attending medical school.
The family settled in Santa Barbara, Calif., where they raised their children and he worked as a pathologist for almost 50 years. The couple later divorced.
He met his future wife, Susan Wilson, in Santa Barbara where they spent many happy years together. Upon his retirement in 1998, they moved back to the Northwest and called Underwood home.
Dr. Dixon is survived by his wife Susie Dickson and daughter Keolani Rose; daughters Pamela Howard, San Diego, Calif., and Deborah Archambault, Santa Barbara, Calif.; sons Daniel Dickson, Casper, Calif., and Brian Dickson, Napa, Calif.; and grandchildren, Whitney and Taylor Bell, Janell and Gwen Archambault, Kira and Tessa Dickson, Leo and Archie Dickson.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth G. Dickson of Salem, Ore.
Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson's Tribute Center, Hood River.
