BETTIE DUFFIELD
Bettie Duffield was born in Davenport, Iowa, on June 2, 1921, to Ward and Fannie (Whitaker) Briggs. When she was five years old, the family moved to Klickitat and Bettie would remain there the rest of her life.
Bettie became the wife of Marshall Sherman Duffield when the couple married in Klickitat on Aug. 2, 1941. She worked at the school as a janitor and for other local companies: Underwood Fruit, Jantzen and Luhr Jensen.
Bettie was a member of the Mormon church and developed faith and friendships through her church family. For many years, she babysat for Aryn and Seth Davis, making their school lunches every day. The Davis children referred to Bettie as "Grandma" and the three enjoyed a bond of love and affection.
Bettie was famous for her delicious pies and would often give them away to families or donate them to local events. Not one to keep a good thing to herself, she happily shared her secret pie crust recipe with others.
Bettie kept a neat yard where she tenderly nurtured beautiful roses which earned her compliments from her neighbors. Always, she enjoyed her many close, dear friends.
Bettie Duffield passed away Nov. 28, 2010, in The Dalles, Ore., at the age of 89. She will be missed by her children Betty Lynn Jenner of Hemet, Calif.; Jim Duffield and his wife Linda of Portland; Marsha Martell and her husband Bill of Klickitat; and Jeff Duffield of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren Tony McGinnis, Lorie Kay Silkwood, Darlisa Langwell, Jim Stephenson, Jason Stephenson, Sandra Young, Bill Martell, Michelle Thompson and Riley Duffield; 17 great-grandchildren and 12 great, great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, with interment at the White Salmon Cemetery.
Gardner Funeral Home handled arrangements.
