DOROTHEA "DOTTIE" YEO
Dorothea "Dottie" N. Witt Yeo died in White Salmon on Sept. 22, 2008, at the age of 93. She was born Aug, 10, 1915, in Evanston, Ill., to Alma Walther Witt and Charles LeRoy Witt.
As an infant, she moved to Portland, Ore., and was raised by her mother, a single parent. She later earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon where she majored in science and education and minored in art. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. After completing her education, she taught art for Medford public schools.
On June 1, 1941, she married Robert J. Yeo. She co-owned and operated the Mayson Furniture Store in White Salmon for many years until retiring to Salem Towne in Salem, Ore.
In 1998, Mrs. Yeo moved to Down Manor in Hood River, Ore., and in February of 2008 moved back to White Salmon.
Mrs. Yeo enjoyed painting, sewing, golf and playing bridge with her many friends in White Salmon and Salem. She will be remembered for her enjoyment of life, family and friends.
She is survived by daughters Carol Sabins of Anaheim, Calif., and Kathy Grisanti of White Salmon; three grandchildren Paul, Adam and Laurel, three great grandchildren, four nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, mother Alma, brother Carl and grandson Damon.

OLIVE KURTZ
Olive Jeannette (Treiber) Kurtz, 88, of Underwood, and Redding, Conn., died after a short illness on Tuesday, July 15, 2008.
Born in 1920 in Seattle, she was a daughter of the late Otis Daniel and Olive (Robbins) Treiber.
Having grown up in Washington, California, Kansas, New Jersey, and Canton, Ohio, Mrs. Kurtz graduated from Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y. in 1945, with a bachelor of arts degree in medical technology. She was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She and her family lived in New York and Illinois before settling in Fairfield, Conn.
In 1980 she moved to Underwood to care for her elderly father and following his passing, chose to make the Gorge her home.
For more than 50 years, Mrs. Kurtz was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.). She was also very active at St. Marks Episcopal Church, Hood River, Ore., where she was a member, and past president, of the Ladies Guild, had led Bible studies over the years and was involved in Cursillo ministry groups. She served on the church vestry. She was also a member of the Order of St Luke healing ministry as well as a dedicated participant in the Angelican Fellowship of Prayer.
An avid traveler, patron of the arts and student of history, Mrs. Kurtz was also a member of the New York Metropolitan Opera Guild and The Colonial Williamsburg Society. Mrs. Kurtz was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She is survived by her two sons Robert T. Kurtz and Thomas T. Kurtz; four grandchildren, Lauren, Matthew, Aidan and Allison; and sister Frances Pattarini.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Kurtz, retired senior vice president of G.E., and four sisters, Georgia Rogers, Margaret Reed, Marion Treiber and Dorothy Jo Treiber.
A memorial service will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Hood River, Ore.

MONTE WILCOX
Monte Earl Wilcox was born in Sweet Home, Ore., on July 30, 1943, the son of Mabel (Christy) and Frank S. Wilcox. On Sept. 22, 2008, he died at his home in Stabler, at the age of 65.
Growing up, Mr. Wilcox lived in many places in Southern Oregon and Northern California. In 1965 he joined the Navy, serving on a ship during the Vietnam War. In May of 1967, Mr. Wilcox was honorably discharged from military service. He then went to work for the U.S. Forest Service, working in Northern California and Washington State. While with the forest service, he had a distinguished career and received many honors for his work. In May of 1994, after 33 years of service, he retired and moved to Stabler with his wife Jan, whom he married on Nov. 10, 1988.
Mr. Wilcox was a former member of BPOE. He had many outdoor activities that he loved such as panning for gold, rock hunting, golfing and fishing. He also enjoyed traveling.
Mr. Wilcox loved his family unconditionally, never making any distinction between his children and step-children. He was a strong, loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife Jan of Stabler; daughter Jessica Denslinger and son James Denslinger of Dillingham, Alaska, daughters Nicole Ruiz and Danielle Walton, both of Hood River, daughters Joy Cox and Julie Elliott, both of Vancouver, son John Denslinger of Buxton, Ore.; and 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Memorials may be made to Heart of Hospice.

JERRY BULICK
Jerry Bulick, died from a heart attack Sept. 25, 2008, at his home in Hood River.
He was born in El Reno, Okla., during the Dust Bowl; his family moved to California in the Great Depression when he was a child. In high school he became a football star and met his future bride. He became a carpenter like his father before him and was followed into this trade by his sons. He had a life-long love of music and was a country music singer and songwriter for many years; and as the song says "People came from miles around just to hear him make that rhythmic sound that filled their hearts with such a happy cheer."
Throughout his life he touched many lives and was loved by all. He was married on July 6, 1954 to Maxine Mellenthin, they had three children. The couple divorced in 1984 and he met and married Doris Hanks on June 26, 1987. Mr. Bulick expanded his family to include her daughter.
Mr. Bulick is survived by his three children, Howard, Bruce and Alison, step-daughter Belinda Gabriel; grandchildren Brandi and Justin Gilroy, Beau and Devin Bulick, Eddy Bulick, Nigel Bond, Erica Barr and Michael Gabriel; great-grandchildren Dezmond Bishop and Evelyn Bond, Hannah Beeks, Carley Beeks and Valerie Bishop; and sisters Janet Bulick House and Judy Bulick Avendano. He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar H. Bulick and Sally P. Bulick and his brothers Bob and Jack Bulick.
A celebration of his life (party) will be held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 19, 2008, at the Trout Lake Grange. Come and bring your favorite stories, your musical instruments and a potluck dish to share.
Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson's Tribute Center, Hood River.
DOROTHY SHIPPEY-JONES
Dorothy Ellen Shippey-Jones, 88, died Sept. 26, 2008, in Spokane Valley. She was born in Oak Harbor on May 14, 1920.
At the age of 11, she was adopted by Ernie and Virginia (McGowan) Struck. She attended school in Appleton and in December of 1937 married Orie Blair Shippey. Mrs. Shippey loved her life on the Shippey ranch. She worked alongside her husband herding cattle and also enjoyed tending her flower and vegetable gardens. She always kept busy, canning, sewing, riding horses, hiking and traveling and received great pleasure in refurbishing things, making them look new and beautiful again. She loved square dancing and ballroom dancing. She was a member of the Washington Cattlemen's Association.
Mr. Shippey died in 1993. She later married Ivor Jones and the couple made their home in Dallesport.
Survivors include her husband Ivor Jones of Dallesport; daughters Marilyn and Arlene; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon, with interment at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Appleton.
