The Friends of the White Salmon Valley Community Library invite the public to its 35th Annual Holiday Wassail Open House on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the library.
Wassail, being held again this year in conjunction with the downtown "I'm Dreaming of a White Salmon" celebration, will feature a variety of music, artisan demonstrations, seasonal displays, art and fun activities for children.
The Friends of the Library will be offering a delicious array of sweet and savory refreshments along with their traditional hot Wassail punch to help launch your seasonal celebrations.
Artisans, who will be demonstrating throughout the afternoon, include: the Northwest Regional Spinning Association fiber artists demonstrating spinning, knitting and other fiber techniques; Marsha Holliston with her creative appliqued felt purses and sachets; and Dee Hulbert demonstrating the fascinating art of Kumihimo (Japanese braiding). Watch the experts and try your hand at something new too! Children of all ages are invited to join staff and volunteers for a variety of fun hands-on holiday crafts, and activities.
The Sprint/Baker Gallery show will feature local artist, Marsha Frost Holliston showing mixed media: works in fiber, beads and found objects an exhibit of works in the art of assemblage.
The music lineup this year will kick off at 1:30 p.m. with a holiday sing-along with Diane Allen and Andre Lamoreaux. Young Fiddlers, students of Connie Dunnington, will play at 2:30 p.m. The Asbury Handbell Choir will play at 3 p.m. and the musical afternoon will wrap up with songs by students of the Columbia High School Music Department from 3:30 to 4.
Top off the day's festivities with the community tree-lighting downtown at 5 p.m.
