Job seekers have new resources available to them at Fort Vancouver Regional Library District locations thanks to the grant-funded program, Get Job Help @ Your Library which began in February.
As part of the grant, classes for job seekers will be offered at the White Salmon Valley Community Library on Friday, April 16.
Sessions include: "Polishing Your Resume" at 11 a.m. for those who have already developed a resume, but would like assistance buffing, waxing and refining it; "Crafting Cover Letters" at 2 p.m. to learn how to tailor your cover letter to each job you seek; and "Creating Your Resume" at 3 p.m. for those who have never had a resume before.
The two resume sessions will be followed by space-limited computer time.
The lineup of classes will be offered at the Stevenson library on May 26 and at the Goldendale library on July 29.
The new job-search resources now provided at the library include online access to three software programs: Job Now! coaching and resume assistance which includes a live-chat job coaching and resume review service; WinWayResume Deluxe which includes Auto Writer for resumes, cover and thank-you letters, Auditor for proofreading and editing resumes, and mock interviews and salary negotiation videos; and WOIS/The Career Information System, which matches your strengths with occupations, provides details on 500+ occupations, locates training programs and stores your job information portfolio online.
In addition, Netbook (small laptops) computers are available for online searches related to job-seeking in select libraries including White Salmon, Goldendale and Stevenson. (Bring a portable USB drive to save your documents).
FVRL received $48,420 as one of 17 Washington public libraries awarded a Renew Washington grant by the Washington State Library in late 2009.The purpose of the grant program is to address the needs of people needing access to employment-related information, resources and services.
The Renew Washington grant program is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
