Crews respond to crash Friday morning

A vehicle sits upright down the embankment of a gravel access road between Highway 84 and the AmeriTies plant Friday morning around 7 a.m. as officers, parked on the eastbound shoulder of the highway investigate the cause of the crash.

A two-vehicle crash occurred Friday morning at about 6:30 a.m. on Interstate 84 eastbound around milepost 86. A Vancouver woman was driving a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta, pictured above, in the slow lane when a blue 2016 Dodge pickup came up behind it and rear-ended it with enough force to force the Volkswagen off the freeway, through a barrier fence, across Tie Plant Road, and onto the property of the AmeriTies West tie plant, according to Oregon State Police Lt. Pat Shortt. The woman appeared to be driving the speed limit, he said. No one was injured in the crash but the Volkswagen sustained major damage. The driver of the pickup was cited for careless driving and driving while suspended. His pickup was impounded, Shortt said.
