Collage of the Gorge in White Salmon will begin a tradition of honoring art educators with an opening on Saturday, April 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Owner Pam Morneault is featuring the work of Carl Goodwin.
Until 1968, there had been no formal art program in McCall, Idaho. Goodwin brought not only his love of art, drama and lively ways of teaching them, but a heightened awareness to many residents in the area.
A number of his first students went on to study the arts. Several teachers, a well-known Boise artist, a Seattle landscape architect featured in House Beautiful and several shop and gallery owners were early students spawned by Goodwin's talents.
In later years of teaching, Goodwin developed an art exchange program with English artist and educator David Durston, in which students' work went back and forth between the countries, often with the students themselves.
Durston has a reputation not only as an artist himself but in educating his students into the highly competitive English college system.
His paintings at Collage of the Gorge are watercolors of the Cotswolds where he lives and of St. Lucia in the Caribbean.
Both men will be at Collage of the Gorge in White Salmon on Saturday to be enjoyed by all ages, abilities and interests.
