A welfare check at a Hood River residence on Monday turned into a death investigation after authorities discovered the body of a 23-year-old woman inside.
On Oct. 6, at approximately 4:40 p.m., officers from the Hood River Police Department responded to a Montello Avenue residence to perform a welfare check. Friends and co-workers of an individual living at the residence had not seen or heard from the individual for several days.
Authorities discovered Cecilia Campuzano Ortiz, 23, of Hood River, deceased inside the residence. The cause of death has not yet been confirmed and will not be known until an autopsy is performed by the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office.
Ortiz was employed by U.S. Cellular in Hood River where she had worked as a sales associate for the past month.
The Mid-Columbia Major Crimes Team including members from the Oregon State Police, HRPD, Hood River County Sheriff's Office as well as the Hood River County District Attorney's Office all responded to this incident and are continuing with the ongoing investigation. The Oregon State Police Forensics team also responded and performed forensic evidence collection and documentation of the scene.
