Glenwood/Trout Lake pounded Vikings pitching for 33 hits and 41 runs while sweeping a Greater Columbia B League double-header last Saturday at Mabton.
G/TL had 12 hits in game one en route to a 21-11 victory in 5 innings. It slugged 21 hits over seven innings during a 20-1 rout in game two.
Marcus VanLaar paced the Eagles (4-0 in league, 5-3 overall) at the plate in the opener, going 4 for 4 with five runs batted in.
Mark Poland went 2 for 2 and reached base and scored five times. Mark Miller had two hits, one a double, and scored three runs.
Left-hander Kris Huffsmith picked up the win, with relief help from David Kavanagh and Trent Steinbach.
G/TL turned a double play in the fourth inning when a Mabton batter hit a bases-loaded grounder back to the mound with none out.
Huffsmith threw home to VanLaar for the force out. G/TL's catcher then fired the ball to first base to catch the runner short of the bag.
In the nightcap, right-hander David Wasgatt tossed a complete-game one-hitter. He walked one, hit two batters and struck out 12. Mabton's lone run was unearned.
Huffsmith led the G/TL hit parade, collecting five singles in five at-bats. He, Poland (4-6, 4 RBIs, 3 steals), and Miller (3-5, 3 RBIs) each scored four runs.
VanLaar contributed three hits, one a double, and drove in four runs. Wasgatt had two hits and three RBIs.
Defensively, the Eagles committed four errors, one of which was in the sixth innning and led to the Vikings' run.
At The Dalles JV 11, Glenwood/Trout Lake 10 --
The winning run scored on a passed ball with none out in the bottom of the eighth inning last Friday.
G/TL exploded for four runs in the top of the sixth to retake the lead, 10-9.
Mark Poland led off with a triple and scored on Marcus VanLaar's single. Two walks and two outs later, Sierra Long ripped a bases-clearing double that scored three.
Long finished with two hits in four at-bats. David Wasgatt also had two hits -- including a solo home run in the third that gave G/TL a 4-2 lead -- and knocked in two runs.
At Lyle 14-12, Klickitat 4-2 --
The Cougars posted a pair of mercy-rule victories over the Vandals in GCB action last Saturday.
Lyle erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the first game. Craig Wilson picked up the win, allowing five hits and a walk, and fanning five.
Wilson, Cal Johnson, Devan Essex and Chris Cochenour each had two hits of Lyle's eight hits off losing pitcher James Brewer.
Both of Cochenour's hits were doubles. He and Johnson each drove in two runs.
In game two, Jesse Spalding fired a two-hitter to earn the decision for Lyle. He walked one and struck out four.
He enjoyed a big lead early as the Cougars struck for all 12 of their runs in the first two innings.
Spalding had two hits to pace Lyle's seven-hit attack against losing pitcher Tyler Schultz. Cochenour and Johnson tallied two RBIs apiece.
At Lyle 11, The Dalles JV 6 --
A seven-run second inning April 16 gave the Cougars a six-run cushion early.
The Indians JV scored all six of its runs over the last four innings to make it close.
Cal Johnson went 2 for 3 with three runs batted in and pitched the final two innings of the game in relief of Dusty Vorce, who came on for winning pitcher Devan Essex in the fourth.
That pitching trio struck out six and allowed just four hits and four walks.
Vorce and James Stanovich each contributed a basehit and two RBIs.

Lyle split a GCB twinbill with Riverside Christian April 12 in Yakima. The Cougars lost the opener, 6-0, but won the nightcap, 12-5.
Jesse Spalding was the loser in game one, despite yielding only four hits, two walks and two earned runs. Lyle mustered one hit in the loss.
In game two, Tyler Essex went 5 for 5 with three triples and to spearhead Lyle's 13-hit effort.
Dusty Vorce provided, two hits four RBIs and three steals. Devan Essex and Cal Johnson each had two hits and three RBIs.
At Sherman County on April 15, the Cougars dropped a non-league contest, 1-0, to the Huskies JV.
Sherman scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh off loser Craig Wilson, who allowed two hits and two walks, and struck out nine.
