Sherman junior Maverick Winslow set a school record of 12-feet-7 inches in the pole vault and the rest of the boys’ team racked up nine top-5 outputs at the Condon-Wheeler Invitational Saturday in Condon.
Added to that, Sherman had a triple jump win by Keenan Coles and a career-best of 55.42 seconds in the 400-meters by Treve Martin to lead the Sherman boys’ track team to third place .
Winslow, who is also an all-league baseball player, has participated in three meets, going from 10-0 in the vault on April 2, to 12-0 at the Dick Horyna Invite on April 9 and Saturday’s record-clinching effort.
“Being a dual-sport athlete, Maverick is limited on the amount of time that he is able to spend at track practice,” said Sherman coach Kyle Pfeifer. “However, when he makes his way to the track after baseball practice, he puts 110 percent effort in and is dedicated to becoming a better athlete. Maverick is always the last one at practice and strives to get better in his events. All of this hard work and dedication finally paid off Saturday when he was able to finally capture that school record.”
