Julian Hernandez scored a win for The Dalles boys’ track team, and the girls had four top-3 finishes for a fourth-place tie at Friday’s Apple Blossom Invitational at Henderson Field in Hood River.
Leading the girls’ team was Avery Cardosi and Paige McLeod, who finished second and third place, respectively, in the 800-meter race.
Cardosi had a time of two minutes and 35.17 seconds, and McLeod, a sophomore, added a mark of 2:38.94.
Karen Jesch had a third-place throw of 90-feet-4 inches, a PR, to pick up third place, and the 4x400-meter relay team of Bailey Nearing, McLeod, Cardosi and Athena Thomas combined for a time of 4:25.38 to secure second place.
Kayla Seibel had a triple jump of 30-8 to claim fourth place, and in the same event, Aileen Luna-Lopez ended up fifth at 30-1.5.
Nearing added a sixth-place time of 1:05.72 in the 400 meters.
Emily Morin scored seventh in the 1,500-meters with a final time of 5:38.81, Marissa Heemsah tallied a PR of 12:30.37 for eighth in the 3,000 and Lexi Thomas added a 4-2 for ninth in the high jump.
Those times and distances gave TD 49 points for a fourth-place tie with La Grande.
Hood River Valley won the event with 147 points, Ridgeview was second at 133.5 and Sprague managed 119.5 points for third place.
The Hood River boys’ team completed the sweep with 205 points, besting Sprague (99) by 106 points.
Ridgeview (70), Roosevelt (63), La Grande (60) and The Dalles (56) rounded out the top-6 teams in the standings.
Hernandez, a junior, claimed his second win in five events, taking top honors with a throw of 155-0.
Paul Clark had a second-place effort in the long jump with a 20-3.
Justin Conklin ended up in second place and Tyler Seibel was fifth in the high jump, each turning in heights of 5-8.
Addison Smith turned in a fifth-place javelin toss of 155-0.
Clark was fifth-best in the triple jump at 39-10, in the 1,500-meters, Luke McLean was fifth in the 3,000 with a PR time of 9:35.23, and he was sixth in the 1,500 at 4:28.01, a PR.
Glenn Breckterfield had a 44.98 to get sixth in the 300-meter hurdles, Jack Bonham had a time of 55.71 for eighth in the 400, and Bill Burns cleared 8-6 to grab ninth place.
The Dalles hosts Horizon Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19.
